Actually, and I know I am going to get flamed for this, but mormonism is a cult that has taken ideas from many religions and adapted it to its own. The fact that they change there rules to adapt to the social climate is a warning sign right there. First, you were suppose to marry alot of women, then they realized they were getting alot of negative feedback and altered that. Then, there was that nasty little bit about African Americans being demons (thats why they`re dark skinned), but when racism became unpopular they changed that. Caffiene was a sin, but then, you can`t preach that and own Coca-Cola, so they changed that too. Sorry, but that just turned me off to the whole faith right there... oh, and the fact that my dad was a mormon but then was curious about other faiths, and because he decided to go to another church to check it out, they "excommunicated" (blacklisted him) from the church in a ceremony where they snuffed out a candle representing him. freaks.

Oh, just to get things straight here, when I stated the whole thing about African Americans I wasn`t saying it like I believe they are actually demons or that racism is right, I was trying to be sarcastic. I was offended to find out how freakishly weird their explanation of where the races came from was. Here are a few links:

Oh and nice way of writing misconceptions and false information as fact. Thumbs Up! Most people would do a little research first, but whatever. To each thier own.
I freaking love the mormons. They can be a little different at times, but they are the coolest!

Oh, and just to get my stance a little more straight, I don`t hate "mormons" per se. I just think their religion is incredibly rooster-eyed. There are some really nice people within the mormon faith that I have had great discussions with. I over did it saying they are "freaks". I reserve that term for the people in charge, the "Elders". The followers of that faith are sadly misguided. Okay, enough with this... lets get back to the humor and banishing bordom!

Thanks "cnlbell", I`m sure now every mormon who comes to this site will change. Your little post in I-Am-Bored has forever changed the lives of many. What exactly were you trying to prove? Are you saying there shouldn`t be Mormons? Are you saying because of their past Mormons should not be able to practice what they believe in? Lets see, a lot of Americans thought slavery was good and black people weren`t equal, so does that mean America is an evil establishment? King Henry VIII formed his own church because he didn`t like any of his wives and had most of them killed and no one seems to care about that. I don`t see why you have to bash Mormons. Yeah, I guess its messed up to change your religion according to the social climate, but thats what they believe in, and as far as i`m concerned they`re not doing anything wrong or hurtful to anyone. So as soon as you can find a resource where current day Mormons go around preaching that African people are demons, I will side with you

I`m not Mormon, but live in UT and have plenty of friends here...not one of them is as moronic as the people listing these posts. cnlbell...you dumb ass! Let me guess...baptise? Catholic? So, your telling me that Mormons are a cult? Look at your own damn religion! Catholics tortured people as a common belief. Baptist hung Afican Americans. Mormons have never done anything except take the ridicule you "Morons" dish out. Do you know that the Mormons were killed by the Government and driven to Utah because of their peaceful beliefs? Well do your homework and shut your mouths. If you want the facts than go to www.lds.org and leave those Mormon bashing sites alone. Why would you try to find out about a religion from a non believer?

I do not prescribe to any doctrine. I believe in a higher power and that you don`t have to pay money to get to heaven, or give up mundane things like caffeine. I have met alot of nice people who are mormons. I am also not so niave that I believe that other religions especially Christianity are pure and have no sins on their record. I just prescribe to the idea that you should thoroughly research any religious group before giving them money and handing over your lifestyle to be controlled. Just common sense.

This is what I am basically saying:
It is imperative to always remember the following two things when you make big decisions:

When somebody makes an extraordinary claim about the nature of reality, you should critically evaluate the claim before you accept it.

When somebody asks you to commit massive amounts of time and money to an organization, you have the moral obligation to make an independent, thorough analysis before you make the commitment.

This was a statement made by the author of the LDS4U website I listed. Don`t you think it makes sense?

Yeah, I believe it makes sense, it just seemed like you were criticizing Mormons for thier beliefs and thier choice to follow their beliefs. I personally don`t agree with the Morman way of life either, and I think its fine to criticize a religion, but its when someone says the people are bad for being in it and calling it a cult. I didn`t mean to come off so harsh in my first post, I guess I got offended because my best friend is Mormon. You are a good writer/ debator :)

my goodness! I didn`t realize so many people thought about mormons like that... good or bad. I`m mormon and it saddens me that people would actually think I was in a cult. Pa-shaw. Like that would ever happen. I hate it when people think the mormon relegion is so "strict" when in reality it`s not at all. If you drink coffee, it`s not a freakin sin. Gah! You shouldn`t drink coffee because its BAD for you. I`m not saying its going to kill you. But it isn`t good for you and neither is caffiene. mormons can drink soda though. I just drank a coke a few minutes ago so Ha! And all of these things we can, keyword, CHOOSE to follow. I can choose whether or not I want to drink coffee. I can CHOOSE whether or not I want to drink alchol or smoke or all of that stuff. These things are just suppose to make my life easier and help me. Like drinking alchol is really going to improve my life, I think not. So puh.

and cnlbell, you should really get your facts right. We never thought black people were demons. All of those websites and idoitc books say we did because they were just trying to take a few stabs at our church. We did have a few things happen with black people back then but so did everyone else. And we were never purposly mean to them or thought they were demons, gosh! The majority of my friends are black. And I know I should really just ignore comments like yours but sometimes I just can`t help myself because that pisses me off so much. I love being mormon. It`s the best part of my life. Ha, fool!

Thanx for the compliment jujubees. I didn`t mean to come off like I thought the people within the Mormon faith were bad, I just personally have found alot of discrepencies in the religion itself. Look, any religion is what each believer makes of it. I take what I read from the bible and apply it to my life and choose not to take anyone else`s interpretation of it. I feel like it is so easy to apply a personal agenda to any faith that I am wary when a "church" sets itself up as "the one true faith". So, cargarbinx, you just proved my point. I didn`t realize there were Mormons who were not tethered to the rule that caffiene is a sin (believe it or not, there are Mormons I have met who strictly believe it is a violation to the temple of God aka your body). Please forgive me for coming off anti-Mormon or pro-any other religion. I am anti-established religion. Does that make sense? Peace out. :)

cargarbinx -- have you researched your faith via a third unbiased party? Here is what I found disturbing, an exerpt from the book of Mormon:

2 Nephi 5: 21- `And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.`
So, rather than saying that the color of ones skin is a wonderful variation within the human race created by God, it is a sign of a curse. hm. and this:
Alma 3: 6- `And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.`.....

According to the Mormons, Lamanites are the native American Indians who they claim, are descendants of Hebrews (who `strayed` and became `cursed` with dark skin)

Look, before you mark me a heretic and claim I am spreading lies (I am not, I DID do my homework, I checked out the Mormon faith as I do with any faith I become interested in), read your own Book of Mormon and ask yourself what the meaning is behind certain passages.

Oh, and just a little on the scientific side, it has since been proven through DNA testing that the Native Americans are NOT decendents of Hebrews but Asian people. So that refutes the claim by the founding father of Mormonism, that the Native Americans are the decendents of a rebellious son (hence the curse of their dark skin) who was Hebrew and migrated to the Americas in 600 B.C. Again, do a little research kiddo. That doesn`t mean you should stop being a Mormon or that you as a person are bad. Just don`t tell me that the Book of Mormon is inspired by God and irrefutable fact. I have found it otherwise.

Stop attacking the mormons, what did they ever do to you? Apart from knocking on your door on a saturday morning :P:P Everyone has their own religious beliefs and very few people are going to change them once they reach a certain point in their lives. The truth is people pick and choose what to believe in their chosen religions. The bible says "thou shalt not kill" but thousands of christian american soldiers kill every day. The bible denounces homosexuality, but there are also thousands of christian people that believe otherwise. The Koran encourages peace in some sections (which the majority of muslims follow) and violence against "infidels" in other sections (which the terrorists follow). The mormons are no different, so give them a break.
I am an atheist who finds religion very interesting but none of it seems to make any sense to me!

Lets get one thing straight here, I am not attacking Mormons. I am in strong opposition to the history and presentation of the Mormon religion. Not the people, the established religion. There is a huge difference. OKAY! I am so done now.

    Eh. I`m an ex-Morman Utahn.

Most Mormans don`t even go to church. They`re only Morman to be accepted here in Utah. And alot of Mormans know very little about their history. My father grew up in Missouri, and my grandmother is a huge Morman, so I know a lot about the religion.

And It pretty much is a cult. My mother use to be a Morman, and she wanted to do bapthisms for the dead. She was about 14. They wouldn`t let her do a SERVICE TO THE CHURCH because she hadn`t paid them. You can`t tell me something isn`t wrong there.

cnlbell, I am sorry if I sounded like I came off a little harsh too. It just kind of made me peeved because I have been mormon my whole life so... yeah. As for the first scripture you mentioned, he was cursing them like that, not because dark skin is bad but to make all the lamanites different from the nephites. The lamanites were wicked so he wanted the nephites to be able to tell each other apart. and as for all the DNA stuff, I am not going to even go through that because I have so many times its getting awfully annoying. There are a lot of things that could prove the mormons beleifs to be wrong, but there are a lot of right reasons too. The point is, your not suppose to find evidence that these things are true or not. You are suppose to have faith that they are true. Obviously your just looking at the facts and the evidence and not looking at what you feel about these things. If you were acutally mormon, I bet you might have a different perspective.

Hey, its alright. I feel everyone has a right to believe whatever, but it bothers me to see people taken for fools. The Bible can be proven on many parts with archeological proof. Thats why I trust the Bible. I don`t need a picture of God to believe in Him, I see evidence of him in the world around me. So I am not totally governed by scientific proof. Here is just one other thing that bothered me when I read the Book of Mormon: There are passages that are clearly plagarized from other works, such as the Macabees, Shakespeare`s Hamlet and the Bible. Also, why does the word "adeiu" show up occasionally if it was translated from a holy tablet written in... forgive me, but I think it was Egyptian or Hebrew. My memory fades now. Also, if the Book of Mormon is to be a companion to the Bible, why does it contradict it? Such as the issue of dark skinned people:

The Book of Mormon teaches that black skin is a sign of God’s curse, so that white-skinned people are considered morally and spiritually superior to black skinned people (2 Nephi 5:21). In contrast, the Bible teaches that God "made of one blood all nations of men" (Acts 17:26, KJV), that in Christ distinctions of ethnicity, gender and social class are erased (Galatians 3:28), and that God condemns favoritism (James 2:1).

Here is a sight to study the Book of Mormon paralelled with the Bible HERE .

I still say, research your "religion" and when all is said and done, if you still find whatever church you are in is the place for you fine. But do not be ignorant or try to convince others that clear falsehoods do not exist. Hey, peace out and hope everyone finds a place that their heart and soul is at peace.

One final thing (Honest! Final!): The Bible, in Deuteronomy chapters 13 and 18, provides 2 tests for anyone claiming to be a prophet and speak for God. If the person fails either test given by God, then we can know for sure they are a false prophet and we are to reject their teaching. Here is the test found in Deuteronomy 18:21-22 which reads as follows:

And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Here the God of Israel tells his people how they can keep from being deceived by someone claiming to be a prophet — if even one of the prophet’s prophecies do not come true he is a false prophet. Joseph Smith made as many as 7 well documented prophecies that never came to pass.

Like already said, There could be all of the evidence in the world that My church wasn`t true and I wouldn`t care because I have faith that it is and that`s all the proof I need. :) but thanks anyways.

shut up really, when someone is excommunicated they do not snuff out a candle representing them, i have known a few people who have been because of things that are wrong for ANYONE to do not just mormons, and they have had to oversome serious problems. Mormons are christians, christians are anyone who believes in christ. We dont think caffeine is bad, everyone drinks it, and we dont own coca cola. Mormons have NEVER believed that African Americans are devils and have never been pro slavery or racist or anything.
Mormonism wasnt just created based on other religions.
Sorry to seem like such a jerk and maybe overreact a bit, but it just pisses me off when people act like a know-it-all about something they know nothing about.
If you havent noticed there has been quite a few mormons posting on here, so i dont understand why u think it is smart to say a bunch of crap that isnt true about them.

Hey cnlbell...keep talking. The only thing your doing is helping me believe even more that CHRISTIAN churches like the Mormons (Since all they do is live and teach about Christ`s gospels)are the only true faiths. You say your belief is your own...What does that make you..hmmm A PROPHET? Anyone that claims to be an authoritative person who divines the future is considered a prophet. Here’s the definition of a prophet http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l... Now stop being a self righteous fool and let people believe any way they want. It amazes me how much time you spent or spend; trying to find out about a religion you clearly don`t even believe in. You sound like an angry son/daughter mad at their dad...lol

In Matthew 5:2–9, Jesus gave the beatitudes. One who really puts these beatitudes to practice in his life will not be popular. The beatitudes are so out of line with what is believed and practiced by society today that one who applies them can only be regarded as odd. The principles expressed in the beatitudes are not the way the world thinks and operates. Jesus, then, went on to say that one who lives a Christian life will be persecuted. He said, "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness` sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, on my account. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you" (Matt. 5:10–12). The Apostle Paul"Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (2 Tim. 3:12). So, those who truly practice Chr

Chr...istianity will be persecuted. (I need more than 1000 chars) What is the historical record of those who obeyed God? Many were persecuted and ". . . others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection" (Heb. 11:35). While the world in general professes religion, it hates the truth and those who practice it. The Apostle John wrote, "Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you" (1 John 3:13). This is what Jesus referred to in Matthew 5:10–12 above. What makes Christianity unique is that it is difficult to practice. Millions profess it, but few are able to live up to it. Furthermore, those who really do try to live conscientiously are promised persecution.

True Christianity is unique in that it is difficult to live up to and then awards one who does so with persecution. The majority of those who profess Christianity and attend the church of their choice today do so for social reasons. This is a decided contrast to Christians in the past, particularly those living under the Roman Empire. Many gave up their lives for their beliefs. But persecutions have not been limited to the Roman Empire. They continue right on down to our day, especially in those nations under Communism. Furthermore, there is a time prophesied yet ahead when vast numbers will be persecuted and martyred (Matt. 24:21).

i find the idea of prophecies completely rediculous. I mean think about it, EVERYTHING you do affects what will happen in the future, from the hard decisions to ones as simple as what to eat for breakfast. Life is random, i mean there are something like 180 million sperm, continually regenerating, each representing a different possible person. Prophecise THAT!
Also, the idea of faith seems pretty silly to me. I mean if you met someone that said "there are fairies in my garden, i know, cause i have faith" you would think it was pretty rediculous right? Well to me, the idea of god seems pretty much on the same level, a magical person (or thing) with infite power who created us and lets us kill each other and destroy ourselves, its just that instead of one weirdo, millions of people believe in it!

If someone posted a link on people who love six toed cats, I could probably come up with a way to keep the thread going for five pages... oh, look we`re almost there. For freaks sake, I just was giving my findings and how I interepreted them. What a righteous and loyal (insert denomination here) you are to withstand the test of evidence supporting how ridiculous it may be. Good for you. Pat yourself on the back and enjoy that wonderful plant/heaven with all your wives sir. Please, maybe I am referring to other sects of Mormonism. There are bastardized versions of every religion out there led by kooks. Your denomination is not left out there. How about the polygamist Mormons out there? HotnBiscuits -- Thanx.

Oh, and, the test is that if even one prophesy does not come to pass. One of them was David W. Patten to go on a mission

Verily, thus saith the Lord: It is wisdom in my servant David W. Patten, that he settle up all his business as soon as he possibly can, and make a disposition of his merchandise, that he may perform a mission unto me next spring, in company with others, even twelve including himself, to testify of my name and bear glad tidings unto the world. (Doctrine & Covenants 114:1)

This prophecy was made on April 17, 1838. David W. Patten died in October of 1838 and thus never went on a mission the following spring.

Guess that was a big oopsie on the part of God eh? So much for being all seeing and all powerful huh? Or maybe Joseph Smith was a crackpot full of sh*t.

Actually, Joseph Smith was a pedophile (he was doing the business with a 14 year old), polygamist (yes it started with him and NOT Brigham Young), swindler (just two years before he started the religion he claimed to be a fortune seer. He was taken to court for swindeling people out of money), he was a member of the Masons (which he DID take a lot of their rituals and put them into the LDS religion) and many, many more. Wait maybe he was a crackpot full of poo too. Good ol` Joe - what a man to worship and idolize.

Hey kissofflibs....I think it`s funny that you say I know absolutely nothing about the religion, when in fact, I was born and raised into it. I decided to go off on my own and research the religion. I used to defend the religion "knowing" that it was the church of God. BLAH BLAH BLAH! However, I grew up; I decided to think for myself. I hope one day you`re able to become more open minded and find the truth yourself. It`s cool if ignorance and faith are for you. You would rather believe in what you think is right...than what is really right, because it`s the easy way out. Your making fun of a religion that teaches people to have faith and live rightouesly. Would you rather have people belive in YOUR ideals and YOUR way of thinking? Where is YOUR creditability?

What is your agenda? What is your interpretation of righteousness? I guarantee it would not match up to the way I live my life, because your living a life with no direction and based off what the world believes is true. Is MTV and the liberal media your sources of truth?

Oh, and for the record, the Holy Bible is my resource for determining the Mormon Bible is a fabrication made up by a mad man. Thank you very much. My credability comes from archiological proof, proving the Bible to be correct and that the Mormon Bible has NO archeological proof. Period. Done. Fin!

If you claim to merely be stating your opinion, well than, I apologize...please continue to take advantage of freedom of speech, and vomit out you lies, but don`t sit back and say that you don`t "hate" the Mormons or their beliefs you, anti-Mormon hypocritical dip poo.

I`m not going to tell anyone what I believe is true because I will be wasting my time. However, I do offer EVERYONE the chance to find out the truth. If you have made your decision before you read this then don`t waste your time:

    James 1:5-8
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

Religion is just somthing you beilve in, it doesn`t matter what you call yourself all that matters is what you beilive in. People who hang up on their past like that are idiots. Just because sombody once bilived somthing and changed because all the others are changing also isn`t bad. In fact they are bettering themselves. cnlbell you really opened yourself up there which really makes me think you are not to bright yourself. (not saying that is what you are but that is what you are making yourself seem) Name calling is not the way to make your point seem.

As for the clip I found it kind of dumb.
