i like the announcers voice. he even says "oh please nick don`t even show it." so the camera man zooms into the audience. poor guy honestly. nobody noticed that was a player except one guy. frig that must HURT. considering its been 20 years im sure the swelling`s died out. Christs sake tho. 5 seconds after there was a POOL of blood. standing ovation.

Malarchuk spent only one night in the hospital, and was back on the ice with his team two weeks later. However, his performance declined over the next few years, to the point that Malarchuk left the NHL. He battled obsessive-compulsive disorder (attributed to his injury) for a time, but he eventually returned to hockey, in the International Hockey League. After retiring as a player, Malarchuk continued his hockey career as a coach.

After Malarchuk`s injury, the NHL instituted a policy requiring all goalies to wear neck protection.

Clint Malarchuk is currently a goaltending coach for the Florida Panthers.

I noticed he wasn`t crying aswell.

Mind you, he was probabaly too busy holding his neck, trying to stop himself bleeding to death.

Hockey is not for the faint of heart. However, anyone who says hockey sucks or is gay has undoubtedly never been to a game, and probably plays badminton so as not to, perhaps, God forbid, get hurt.

It actually takes time for it to hurt, sometimes. Just seeing the blood would make me faint! (If I was him). But um.. I have nothing else to say :)

I figured his nose had been crushed, happened to one of my buddies, believe me, there is alot of blood there too. but anyways, there wasn`t much time with the video on the player with the wound, but notice how he isnt crying or anything! HOCKEY KICKS ASS!

targo: your jugular vein is a pretty vital vein...
since it`s kind of the biggest one in your nody I believe

but yeah, we`ll just give him a pat on the back and let him on his way

What`s funny is that as soon as I saw the goalie get hurt, I instanly put my hand on my neck and kept it there for some time.

i was going to say. if you sever a jugular you die, no chance to live. He`s damn lucky just to have nicked it.

OK let me tell you from someone who was actually there, it was not all that cool. The player was on the ice for about 10 minutes when he was finally taken off the blood covered most of the goal crease. They brought shovels out to scoop up the blood off the ice, he did not sever an atery but it nicked his juglar vein, they said on the news that night had the cut gone another half inch he would have died. incidently STL won the game 2-1, it is something I will never forget as I was only 8 at the time.

That`s sick. I thought the people at i-am-bored had some standards regarding offensive, obscene and extreme content.

Well obviously being stabbed in the neck is deemed acceptable. Shame on you i-am-bored.

I love how the announcer was agonizing over it and suddenly blurts out “You’ve watching Saber’s hockey…”. That’s pretty professional if you think about it. No mater what, work in that station ID before the break.

I remember this from years ago. Scary scary stuff. This play is why almost all amatuer level hockey goalies use neck protectors. A lot of pros did too, but I don`t see them much anymore.

did you not hear them saying to keep the camera off the goalie? here`s a description from this site recalling the incident: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/m...

On March 22, 1989, the Sabres goalie was involved in a goalmouth collision with St Louis Blues winger Steve Tuttle and Buffalo defenseman Uwe Krupp. Tuttle`s skate sliced Malarchuk`s neck like a scythe cutting wheat severing his jugular vein Malarchuk had the presence el mind to get up quickly and race off the ice. But with each beat of his heart. blood was spurting out of the wound.
