Contrary to what some people think. In science, the word theory is used to describe something that is about as solid as it can get.

It`s still a work in progress, the details are still being worked out, with new data being added and out understanding of its machinations increasing every day. But to suppose that the word Theory means that it`s just a best guess that could be disproven at any point, is to not understand the scientific usage of the word `theory` at all.

That`s not to say that it COULDN`T be disproven or radically changed, part of science is to always be ready to change what you consider `fact` based on new information. It`s just that in order to disprove the theory of evolution at this point, you would need some sort of momentous discovery (or a series of such discoveries) that fundamentally changed our basic understanding of biology, chemstry, microscopy and geology, to name a few fields.

This is a really bad song. It is spreading falsehood. Imagine what crap would we be teaching our children if we follow religion.

Nope, your ancestors weren`t monkeys [sic: apes], they were made out of dirt, and a rib from the guy made from dirt. Of COURSE! That makes so much more sense.

now to sound really smart , actually the theory states that we evolved from the same ancestor of the ape, and that when we went on different evoluntionary paths . So technicaly we didnt evolve from an ape but we have a distant ancestor in common . But yeah I think that Religion these days is really a joke and to fully follow a religion and its leaders is allowing your mind to be controled. All the crap that has happened as a cause of religion over the past millenia is a joke I wouldnt cry if every religion got obliterated .

Since when is atheism a religion? And what you`re saying exists, it`s called intelligent design, which is basically religious fundamentalists` way of sugercoating creationism to try to make it more acceptable to school boards.

I dunno, maybe I`m just thinking the wrong way, but has anyone ever thought that creationism and evolution can co-exist? I mean, honestly, what`s wrong with some god creating life from mud, and then encouraging that life to evolve towards "his" form (if it really is a he). I`m an aethiest, and I`m a strong supporter of evolution, but to say that I am right and you are wrong is rediculous, because neither side has solid evidence.

Personally, I think weshould stop all of this religeous propoganda for any religion, including athiesm. The only thing religious propoganda is good for is starting wars with other religions, and where`s the sense in that? Last time I checked, every major god in the world promoted PEACE.

those kids said they never swung from a tree. I`ve never met a kid who hasn`t climbed a tree!! those lying non-nice individuals! They were awfly arrogant too, saying that not only do they not know anything about their ancestry, they know they weren`t monkeys. OK, but how can you know that if you dont know anything about it? Dumbasses. Yeah, you didn`t come from a monkey, I`ll give you that, but my theory holds more water than yours does. Punk. "but but, PHROE! Father Priest guy says..." Oh yeah? Is that before or after he gave you the snikers bar for touching him below the belt? Father Priest guy aint all sunshine and roses, princess.

You`re all WRONG.

According to L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, we all evolved from clams.

He claims that many of our anxieties can be traced back to trillions of years of living as a clam. Lots of our problems stem from the conflict between the hinge that wanted to open and the hinge that wanted to close.

Also, we have anxiety from years of trying to gulp air while on the sea shore as wave after wave rolled over our heads.

Hey...if it`s good enough for Tom Cruise and John Travolta, it`s damn well good enough for me.

Evolution is a theory in progress. What about this like "Lucy" is that easily dismissed? Over the last 50 yrs alone we have made great progress, Pope John II even said the "Evolution is something that we should look in to." And to think that we and the world are only a little over 5000 yrs old is a bit narrow minded. Especialilly when it come from a 2000 yr old book that has gone through at least five different langauge translations, and another 500 yrs before i landed in your local Sunday school class.

Dear Monty Python,
Your meaning of theory is flawed. Theory is not fact. Theory is merely something that says that this result tends to occur all the time when something happens. There`s a theory that say that atoms exist. The thing about a theory is that it`s still open to be disproven. Just because it hasn`t yet doesn`t mean it will. We`ve all had your same highschool science class.

I believe in evolution but I believe a supreme being caused the creation of the cosmos (definitely not the god of any religion we have on Earth)

Theories arise from multiple tests of closely-related hypotheses, rather. One test does not a theory make.

Obvously, you did not read my post. In science, the normal meaning of theory is refered to as a hypothosis. A hypothosis is a statement that can be proven or disproven. If that hypothosis is proven, it becomes a theory.

Okay, go pick up a science textbook and look up the word "theory" in the glossary. Please.

A theory will never become more. General and special relativity, Newtonian gravity, etc. are all "theories" in the same sense.

There`s more ways to go about refuting than attacking the meaning of theory... And that means is certainly the basest.

Well, technically, from a scientific standpoint you can’t write off creationism as a possibility since it is bad science to automatically disregard something that is impossible to test. I’m an atheist but I admit that creationism is possibility, albeit one that is significantly less likely due to the fact that there is absolutely no evidence to back it up. The thing that frustrates me is that most advocates of creationism don’t even want to consider the validity of generations of scientific data that supports evolutionary theory.

"I`m not overly religious, but haven`t you guys noticed scientist aren`t always right either? I respect the religious theories just as much as the scientific theories on how we came to be. To totally dismiss one or the other is narrow minded"

Evolution is a _scientific_ theory. That means that it is a hypothosis that has been tested and proven. Since creationism is cannot be proven or disproven it is philosophy (not science). Thats why it is dismissed. IT ISN`T FREAKING SCIENCE! To say "Its narrowmined to dismiss something that has NO PROOF" is just stupid.
