82CeeJay5, New Orleans was orgionally a bunch of small cabins built upon large cotton bales, when the waters would flood, everyone would leave and the houses would float due to the cotton. then the people would return and the damage would be minimal... soon the levy was built and everyone thought the problem was solved...until the arrival of the largest hurricane the coast has seen since colonization. That is why no one has ever done anything, and why would Clinton have any idea that the leavy would overflow nearly a decade after his term when it hasent shown any sighn of doing so before?

Didn`t anyone realize yet that the entire city of New Orleans was built below sea level and this was bound to happen sooner or later. Also, Why didn`t anyone fix it years ago? Maybe Good Ol` Boy Bill Clinton could`ve done something worthwhile in his term.

If everyone knew this was coming, then why didn`t anyone in the Louisiana government prepare for it? Katrina was not "created" by anyone. Even before the hurricane, Louisiana was receiving more engineering funding (for its levees) than ANY OTHER STATE.

By the way, I think it is very telling that the left is now relying on photoshop and cut-and-paste to attack Bush. This picture, and all the other similar ones on this site, are absolutely despicable.

This is sad.
I personally have family members and friends without homes. Some lost everything. Some don`t even know what they`ve lost because they haven`t been allowed to go back and see what damage has been done. Some are still looking for their brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers.
Where is the funny in that?

Hey Sting chick, How can you have a problem with an assembly of people as large and diverse as the ENTIRE country of America? We all have different ideas about how this country should be run.. (case in point, is Bush an idoit or the best president ever) but that is how we work, we vote and the majority decides. My argument is this... One such as yourself should not verbaly attack a nation for the acts and failures of a few. I am a first amendment junkie so I will not admonish you for your views or call you names for having openly expressed them, but I must point out that you need to slim down your overly broad accusaitons and focus more on the indivual people who need help. Do you truly think that each one was some sort of tw*t who did not try to preserve their own life and the lives of their friends? Though I urge your reply, I ask that you sit and think upon it for a moment first.

Desert rose hasn`t done anything wrong except right her opinion on a website comment book and from all angles she`s being called a racist and a whole list of names. She if not the only one who has this opinion the sane part of the rest of the world thinks it also. How can america a country which is the most dominant global power need our money the red cross is practically using every form of media to try and squeeze money out of europeans and everyone else on the globe when really the person who should really be paying more attention to the matter is their own president. The internet is a medium of free speech in which people have the right to say what they want. Controversial views should be argued rationally and without you people tossing round insults and accusations.

sorry, FreeMotion... How about you read my posts? I have no particular hatred towards George Bush it is the AMERICAN PEOPLE that I am pissed off about. I would never condemn a group of people because they`re spokesman sucks. What annoys me is the way that america `expects` our help, and, as it seems to me, demands our money. I will give my money to those who I feel are truely in need. I believe that America DOES NOT need this money, as they are the richest on the planet.

I do think Bush is a complete idiot though, dont get me wrong on that. But please, before you get on your high horse, please take time to read the posts.

PS-The whole "US can pay for it, why should I donate to their sorry ass because of that damn war" idea is a load of BS. Some people don`t realize that the US gives so much to other countries without asking for anything in return. Then, when a hurricane annhiliates three states (and the US doesn`t ask anything for it), a lot of countries point at each other and run away. For the one`s that don`t, including Britain, I`m happy about. Some citizens, though, maybe need a hurricane to hit a little closer to home and see what the fuss is about.

Does desert_rose realize that Katrina destroyed (And I mean flattened) an area of land eqivalent to 1/2 of England? I can`t believe you wouldn`t send money or even a damn stick of gum to people living in their own sh*t because you think that our "tw*t" president sucks. I`m glad millions of other people don`t have the same sucky outlook you have at humanity. Guess what: This isn`t about political status, and this isn`t about showing the president who`s who. This is about you not feeling any compassion whatsoever to get off your lazy ass and do something about fellow humans dying when you could help them out.

Way to go.

I find the americans ignorance that their own government abondoned them in their hour of need leaving those people to rot for some insane amount of time sad. Also them thinking that they, the worlds biggest superpower, should be taken on higher priority than east asia with some of the poorest is sick. I don`t feel we should have to pay them and that it is the governments responsibity. Of course it`s not the governments fault there`s no money it`s all being pissed away to destroy a even poorer country that has just been freed from a dictator to recive a new one. That said the only thing people are really arguing about is the people diening down there and on how it is such a tragedy so maybe we should just forget about the government and inefficency of

All righty, here`s my belated two cents: Cuthbert, you seem like you watched the same 20/20 show that I did. Can you believe they actually have, and spend money on, an international PAPER museum? I have no problem with spending money on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum, but a museum all about paper? What do they have for souvenirs, Post-it Notes? And Joseffstalin, when you said that Bush "-Set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market", you should really attribute that to Herbert Hoover, who was President at the start of a little something called the Great Depression!! The stock market actually CRASHED then. Okay, nitpicking over. And I really shouldn`t be so riled up about a paper museum when there`s a prostitution museum. I probably shouldn`t be so riled up about anything I have no control over anyway. Wow, almost 1000 characters! Woohoo! Longest post ever! God, I love being on a coffee ice cream buzz! :-D

I`d just like to make a simple a simple post:

I`m British and would like to say that desert rose does not represent how allus Brits feel!

I thought the picture was funny, as it may be a sore spot but throughout history whenever something majorly tragic has occured, we have always tried to make light of the situation, this IS NOT poking fun, and although I am against the Bush administration (as any good Bill Hicks Goat Child should be), I am not Anti-America as desert rose etc seems to be.

Yes, the government knew the New Orleans risk and should have prepared for it, they werent, but that cant be helped now, a tragedy has occurred and we should all pull together to help our fellow human beings! Most countries including Afganestan and Iran have also offered aid to the US, which was not asking for it.

End this America Vs Britain thing. It`s old.

Hmmm, too lazy to read all this junk... But from the first page I can say three things, most likely already been said.

First, Bush didn`t ask for help, we basically forced him to let us. We had planes ready to fly down with food, but he wouldn`t let us untill two days after the people began to starve.

Also, It is his fault he cut the funds. He let a fund for a bridge to a random island off the coast of Alaska because some government person owned it. But he couldn`t help protect his country?

And the states aren`t that rich, seeing as they go farther into debt every minute.

Theres my two cents :-)

I do not believe that it is possible for one who did not experience the situation to have a fully unbiased view on it. This applies to ANY situation. You who do not live in the USA complain about our government more than your own. How can you complain about something that you know no more than what your media tells you.

Desert rose: I want you to go down to the shelter I worked at on Sunday, I want you to see 39 people my church helped.

I want you to ask them who they blamed for the helicopter that lifted them off of their roof.

I want you to ask them who they blame for the C-130 who transported them to my town(San Antonio)

I want you to tell the man I met who had his feet in wet boots for 4 days and his feet had swollen beyond the ability to walk. Ask him who he wants to blame.

I wonder how my friends I made down there would view that picture? Funny? or sick?

I skipped pages 4, 5, and 6 I have a short attention span.

Desert rose and the girl with the random assortment of numbers: If you are so quick to point out peoples imperfections and how poorly they handle things, then why do you not move to the US and try to change things

"People complain and complain about the weather, but never do anything about it"
-Mark Twain

Is it not possible for you to become a world leader?

As for the "they sent guns before food" argument:
First, I`m not sure this is entirely true (Is it possible you think the salvation army is a real army?). Half of you nimrods complain that the military enforcement was not fast enough, the other half complain they were to quick. So I guess you really don`t share a communal brain, you share 2 communal brains. But on to my point: How is it possible to get aid to these people with looters and riots? How can we save others if the savers need saving?

Maelstom_X, BenjBenj, and Slippery, I agree with you all completely and have great respect for your views.

Desert_Rose, it is YOU who have it wrong. the U.S.A. did NOT ask for money, it simply accepted the generous donations from other countries. Also, the U.S. accepted more people to help with the disaster!

Look215, your ignorance is frightening. There have been over 2,000 deaths to date and the death toll continues to rise. Hurricane Katrina is far from being over. Search and rescue units find bodies. Money is not enough because there is a shortage of relief workers.

As for the picture, I believe feeling are still tender and this is not the time for political satire.

Desert rose, if you like Sting because he`s rich and powerful, how come you dislike America so much. I mean... seriously, THE richest, one of the most powerfull... with an attitude like that you should be americas hoe. Generally on these boards, the canadians and the americans have the best idea of what`s going on. You Europeans or on a separate continent, so the tragedy doesn`t affect you so much. This isn`t all of you, but its looking like a majority.

I dont beleve that anyone outside of America should be able to point and say ` hey, there big and rich, they can handle it!` because the only one who has that right is AMERICA. and we have said that help would be graceously receved from whomever would be so kind as to offer it. We may have to deal with Bush now, but he will be gone in short time, then the wars will end, and you may require our help. and guess what? I will give that help to any of the European countries who need it, that is how it is supposed to work.

This debat may be too late to join, but I will put in my 2 cents anyway... first, Joseffstalin, marxist or not, has very valid infromation and a good point. xmrofrosteex, if you are going to debate, then come up with a better reply. The reason there was not a decent evacuation plan is because N. O. has in the last decade become one of the biggest city wide slums in America, before anyone else wants to bow up and look down upon us americans for letting that happen, keep in mind, every country has some sort of slum or anothner, so dont even start. We may be the most powerfull and one of the richest countries in the world, but that does not imply perfection. Oh and as for the sting-loving-chick who seems to like to think that our government no longer rides upon its origional foundation of democracy but now depends upon money and major corparation... I beleve if you stopped to look at what your country has moved from (Dictatorship of King and or Queen) and is now

No. Acctually, i hated Clinton. I think it finnally time for a woman president in office. You know why? Because women can manage money! The U.S. is currently going through its worst 30 years of leadership, ever. And the reason for that is because the presidency is no longer the job it used to be. Now-a-days the general public is just stupid enough to vote for the guy with better infomercials.

Well I say its time we took a lesson from out little brother Canada, or papa England, and make a couple reforms to our way of government that could prevent suc stupid people from getting into office.

• Took the biggest world sympathy for the U.S. after 9/11, and in less than a year, made the U.S. the most resented country in the world.
• First U.S. president in history to have a majority of people in Europe (over 70%) view his presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

Nature is nature, people aren`t perfect and poo happens. People build a city six feet below sea level, a hurricane comes through and does what would have happend already naturally. It was a horrible, horrible thing to happen but it also was inevitable. To play the name game and blame someone for this reason and another for that we should remember that when you reccon with nature it finds a way to strike back.

It does however make me sick to think all these people lost their lives for something that could have been prevented whether it was by upgrading the levees or just plain not building a city in such a vulnerable location in the first place . Either way thousands of people are gone or no longer have the opprotunity argue about who`s fault it was over the internet. Just think about that.

with just property damage and like 2 deaths( a city wasnt flooded to that extent but people were actually prepared and did listen to warnings. But now Money is coming , and I have to say that $50 billion with another $50+ billion on the way isnt petty cash if managed right it could do a TON of rebuilding. I find it sad that people are complaining that even that isnt enough. Finally the last group that angers me is the media and celebrities , we are just being bombareded by Katrina news, its over!!! there is nothing left to report move on with something else. And then there are the many relief shows and fundraisers that are just poping up , it just isnt needed people are just taking this disaster to promote themselves even further , just last night I saw a show from doctor phil and the self advertisment made me SICK!! I`m sorry for the double post this stuff needed to be said, I just feel the people of easternasia can handle themselves alot better than whats happening now!

While everyone is still bush bashing ( * shiver* GWB that guy scares me because of what may or may not be happening behind the scenes* shiver*) What really angers me is just the actions of everyone involved. First we have the city of new orleans , the hurricane sat in the coast for about a week yet they had NO evacuation plan , Ive been hearing stories of nursing homes being giant morgues. So 100,000+ people are left behind to fend for themselves the city did NOTHING to help these people and then the mayor complains and moans to the world how they have been ignored. But its not like the actions of anyone else is very honourable , the citizens left in the city are raping and pilaging and just taking advantage of the situation, people are moaning and groaning for money and support and how there is such a slow response . Things need to be organized , how can a country think that the situation would have ended up like this , when states like florida through the same .....

The people that were killed cause of the wateres and people that are still down there, yes, they are in fault some since they didnt listen and evacuate. But still, dont blame the government and President cause of there neglagance.

I didn`t read much comments except one that I will reply to: America didn`t "run to the UK" for money. Bush said he openly accepted donations from anyone. UK gave money to us out of generousity, and I am thankful for that, but we didn`t ask them or beg them to. We simply said we will accept donations.

Funny picture, it did make me laugh, but then I felt bad for laughing. :(

it would appear that its generally agreed that the response time was lacking and that people have probably DIED because of that lacking response-enough said. Agreed it was a huge bitch of a hurricane and given the state of play with the environment etc its not going to the last one of such magnitude - whats the answer? prepare - and surely that means that those elected to office in effected areas make it part of their manifesto to have adequate emergency procedures in place to limit the cost in terms of lives lost. At an individual level, keep supplies stocked for such times and have your own evac plan for your family. The elected officials can also have stocks housed in a safe (as far as is possible) place that can be accessed by the people when theyre needed.

"George Bush (who put the funds into that bloody war they insisted on having)is completly taken in surprise."

Who is "they?" I certainly hope you don`t mean the American people as a whole. The intelligent among us wanted nothing to do with a war.

"Im not saying that a hurricane was your fault, im saying not preparing for it, when you KNOW full well its coming is your fault."

So it`s the people`s fault that the government did nothing to prepare for the hurricane? Keep in mind that the people living in the affected areas were used to hurricanes. It comes with living where they lived. This one just happened to be a huge bitch of a huricane. The biggest tragedy with this one is that the government response was so unoriganized.

So tell me... does it actually hurt to be so ignorant?

Desert_rose, good to hear that you like good arguments. But what are yours? You just squirt out an opinion and that`s it.

jtc970, go read the National Geographic article on IAB (and read other stuff too) and find out that one single state could not have afforded to make all those investments needed to protect the American Gulf States from floods. That`s why there is a national government too. The Bush administration never denied its responsibilities, but did make the mistake by cutting the wrong costs. So yes, Bush IS to be blamed too.

Regardless of your political views this pic is still in bad taste. At a time when there are still bodies floating around and thousands are still without their most basic needs, it`s just wrong to exploit such a tragedy, preventable as it may have been, for your own amusement. I took no joy in seeing the aftermath of the tsunami, or the earthquakes in Japan, or the Madrid train bombing, or the London bombings. Why then do people laugh at a situation in which thousands are suffering?

Why George BUsh? Why arent people screaming about the local N.O. government? It was their responsibility to protect their people not the federal government. Federal tax dollars go to helping at a last resort. 49 other states should not bear the burden of securing a levee in New Orleans. Gambling and tourism is a big money maker, where did that go?
People have every right to hate Bush, but damn, stop blaming him for EVERYTHING.

You`re right desert_rose. The US does not need financial aid from an insignificant, poxy little island that exists as nothing more than a service industry to France and Germany.

You`re also right in that the US IS the richest and most powerful country. Seems to me your schadenfreude towards this incident really shows how jealous you are of what you percieve as their superiority.

I wouldn`t get caught up in resenting America`s superiority. Believe me, you have plenty to worry about in Hooligan`s Island instead. The US will be fine when this whole disaster gets cleared up.

5009138I- I really couldn`t understand a word she said, so whoever speaks `british` could you clue me in on what she said?

I don`t quite understand why people insist on placing blame. "Something happened so now we have to blame someone for it and hold them for it, and make them PAY FOR IT!" When will people look at who to thank first? How can you blame someone for a natural disaster? I understand the government didn`t respond at the best capacity they could, but oddly enough they are human too, and aren`t perfect.

Desert Rose: What position do you hold in your federal goverment? I mean you obviously must be some sort of prime minister, or dictator for the UK to know for a fact that the USA begged for money from you. Judging from your posts you have some major inside info. btw: The UK offered us money, and we didn`t accept.

You say you like arguing, but you actually just like talking and don`t want to hear anything said to you.

Cracker of a pic! but leave the recriminations/blame apportionment until all those in need have been helped to try and start their lives again. Fed to local government will all shoulder the burdon and rightly so, with the power of office at what ever level comes responsibility and there (hopefully) will be an accounting. The US may be wealthy but this crisis highlights that we`re all human and suffer from human failings.

you just contradicted yourself.
I dont see anywhere where we asked for money straight out. We may have asked to borrow some money, something wrong with that? We give money every year to everyone. We need help, we should be ashamed for asking for it? I dont care how rich any nation is, when it comes to whole cities being wiped out then yah we need help. when millions have lost their home, we need help to give them shelter and food. If you want to complain about it then feel free. But you will look like a heartless bafoon.
The only people who are making it about race are the people who make a living on race issues. NOt all the victems are shooting their rescuers. Just a few who thought that looting and stealing is more important than saving lives. Those people should be shot on the spot. but they aren`t because all the racists who complain about racism will whine and

Its just p*ssing me off the way america just `expects` us to give them money and aid, after going on, celebrating independance day, from the UK and then at the first sign of trouble, its all `oh, save us!`

Tailand was different, these are some of the poorest people on the planet, and look how everyone pulled together to help out. And how they responded! That was a true testament to the good will and fight that exsists in people. What does America do? Bitch and moan about race and class then proceed to SHOOT they`re rescuers!

I do, of course, realise that there will be exceptions to this, people poor and forgotten, and my heart goes to them. I also understand that there is a lot of grief. BUT there is a lot of grief in a lot of places. What? Just because its america i should care mo

I.A.B im ashamed you would use a tragedy where many people are STILL suffering for your political preference. This shows that any type of suffering will be exploited by the left. Just like blaming Bush for cutting funds to something a rich city can afford to do themselves. I dont think every state in the U.S. should have paid for them to reinforce their levees. Tourism and Gambling made the city enough money to protect itself.
