Ithink it`s interesting no one has mentioned the last few lines in the video. Sure, there is definitely a guilt part, but the very end just tells you to enjoy it. You ARE lucky, just like the mammals were when the dinosaurs died out. So make the most of it because your gonna die.
Oh, and why is it that humans think they have the RIGHT to be happy? Billions of animals go malnurished everyday, why is our spieces the only one that must live in luxury to make life worth living? What about those poor, malnurished rats in NY? They are pitiful and starving creatures, but no one has organized a crusade to save tem from the horrors of their own existance. Perhaps the poor are REALLY the lucky ones, they worry about staying alive, not whether or not their lives are cushy enough to be worth living.

How about we all start recycling all our trashes, donate money to the charity and buy from Fair Trade and go out in the woods to hunt and pick berries and `shrooms? Doesn`t sound too good, huh? Could you live with it?
People are selfish creatures by nature, it can`t be changed. Could you live in a hut burning candles for light and write letters to your friends and relatives? Or would you like to continue your current life? I believe most people take the latter.
The most appealing is the charity, so we can feel we`re good little humans and show ourselves we care. It`s to silence the voice of conscience.
I admit I`m selfish and I admit I`ll just keep on giving to charity and go dumbster-diving and buy my clothes from flea markets, but I won`t give up my comp, electricity or any of my other comforts.
Life`s a big pile o`poo, live with it.

"It ain`t luck, luck is BS. We are where we are because we made it happen. Freakin doomsday people always trying to make people feel bad for being successful"

I agree with the last sentence, but if you were in most of the world with the exact same circumstances as otherwise, you would not be nearly as rich as you happen to be right now. And I`m not talking about millionaires, I mean middle-class american. It`s not all luck, a decent part is geographic positioning.

Why are you all such morons? Honestly. My drating God, you have the world`s tragedy shoved under your nose and all you can do is bitch and whine. "Waahh, now I feel bad" "Waahh, those are made up" "Waahh, they`re making Christians look bad" Get off your asses out out of your denial, kiddies. Don`t sit there and blow it off telling yourself it can`t be real. Fact is, it is real. It`s true. Open your eyes and see how damn lucky we are. You may not want to believe it, but there it is. Just because you can`t handle fact, don`t sit there and laugh. We all say things like "That has to be made up" because we just don`t want to get up and reailize what a state the rest of the world is in. The people who are affected by this are not "easily manipulated" at all. It`s the drating average American who`s brainwashed by our government into thinking all`s peachy. So, of course, when something shows otherwise, it is, of course a lie. Wake up. Things ar

The main purpose of this B.S. is to force a guilt trip on certain populations (mainly white Americans) in order to push a Socialist agenda. To all of the people who think this is a clever, deep message I pity you for being manipulated so easily. If you want to help you fellow man, get up off you ass and do something instead of propagating FOO-FOO, B.S. messages like this around the internet. Oh, and in case you all didn`t know, 43% of all statistics are made up ;)

It tries to make you feel insignificant (if you are a Christian) by saying that 33 would be Christian and 67 wouldn`t be... I`m sure, however, that if you take each individual religion and stack them up instead of Christian/Not, it would be high on the list.

And just as a side note, i think that your analysis of hip hop is far too narrow... there are so many hip hop groups out there who are preaching peace, loving kindness, and critical thought - granted they don`t get played on the radio (well, not in the States anyway... yay canada!)... besides, is it merely hip hop which subjugates women and prizes material goods as the highest form of accumulation (i.e. "bling" -- and i thought you`d like that, being a staunch capitalist ;-) )? no, of course not... look at all the little "pop divas" or actors and actresses making it fashionable for a full grown woman to run around 75% naked and weigh 88 pounds... i think that the racial lines that you have drawn to delineate "good" from "bad" are faulty... it`s not "non-whites" fault, it`s society`s fault for falling for it and supporting it.

I do enjoy a fair amount of personal property, BUT not to the extent that erodes away my nature as a human being, or my relations to other human beings (or beings in general). That is the problem with the current state capitalism, the driving force is personal accumulation ABOVE a conscientiousness of the Needs (not merely Wants) of others. I do not think that the two need to be mutually exclusive. Competition which truly drives the progression of the species (i.e. scientific competition, intellectual competition, the types of competition which inspire positive change in the world) is in no way a bad thing, and yes, capitalism CAN produce that kind of competition… but does it by the very virtue of its existence? No, no system does….

Not to mention the desire for the accumulation of THINGS (e.g. materialism) takes away from our intrinsic nature as thinking, feeling, willing, being humans. You sound like you are probably an economics or political science student, so i’m sure you are familiar with the quote, “The less you eat, drink, buy books, go to the theatre or to balls, or the public house, and the less you think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you will be able to save and the greater will become your treasure which neither moth nor rust will corrupt – your capital. The less you are, the less you express your life, the more you have, the greater is your alienated life and the greater is the saving of your alienated being.” Now, please don’t resort to name calling at my introducing that quote, i’m no marxist – BUT, that doesn’t mean that there is no point to what is said there.

Yes, disparity can fuel positive change, when it is a disparity that fosters benevolent competition. AS IT STANDS, capitalism merely pits each producer/consumer against the other, so that all each individual is in the eyes of another is a means of profit. I don’t necessarily think that each and every action we make must be at the benefit of another, but we CANNOT treat others as merely means to ends, especially when the end is our own personal desire for accumulation. Competition, which CAN be driven by capitalistic impulses, is not in and of itself a flawed concept – but when competition means that one person can own a $180 million dollar home when others have NOTHING (and i am speaking of those with no control over their extant circumstances), it is far from healthy.

When do you want to exist under the requirement that every action you take must benefit another party, as if you are in debt to them for your existence?? This stifles personal drive, the true benefactor of society, and makes our reason for existing irrelevant.

The "haves" and "have-nots" are relative to eachother (this is the most imporatnt realization), and NEED eachother in order to exist at all, and more importantly, to PROGRESS! Would you prefer a system in which everybody is equally poor, because this is the natural result of erasing the distinctions between varying degrees of wealth, and regulating egalitarianism at the point of a gun. No one can trade, exchange, or own, or even be. No one is allowed to get what they want, because they are not allowed to want, because the system is not set-up to address the NATURAL disparation of people based on their individual abilities, experiences, and desires. Your only alternative to Capitalism is a `progressive` percentage of total governmental regulation of personal property, personal existence and personal pursuites; a system in which desires are rationed just as much as the products designed to satisfy them; in which individual pursuits are prohibited because others migh

I`m sorry Assimilate, I must have confused you with another user who was touting the benefits of charitable contribution, in combination with having read this post of yours:
"i won`t go into self-aggrandizing detail, but i assure you, i AM doing something . i only hope that others can claim the same." I`m happy you see the fallacy adressing a problem that is self-sustaining with a solution that is not! I want to address your faulty charges against capitalism; the only way for a system of growth, or of NATURE for that matter to operate, is for there to be disparity between components - otherwise, they are one unit, and this makes impossible the operation of a system (society) requiring interaction; we MUST, at SOME level, be disparate in order for us to exist, and obviously people are born with varied talents and abilities; this is why economic diversity is GOOD; it is the natural result of people assimilating themselves into the areas of effort most needed by society,

Well, but doesn`t capitalism itself, by means of its very existence, sustain the most crucial of divisions - the have`s and have not`s? I have not overlooked the divisive nature of the previous arguments made, as well as those made in the clip itself. I agree with others who have said that this video was perhaps made to make an impression, not relay exact numbers. Please don`t chide me on charity, you are assuming, and that, again, defies your attempts at philosophical banter. I know that many charitable donations end up the hands of warlords and corrupt governments - but there are ways of helping other than throwing money at a problem... Your desire to eradicate the various forms of positive difference that are so vital to the survival of a species again shows your utter ignorance of the real issues in the world. It has nothing to do with who has the most cash, it`s about power, corruption, domination, and suppression... and, by the way, it`s assimilate13* for a reason... ;-)

Why is it wrong to call something poo when you know it`s poo?? Means the same as poop, and crap, but we choose to label one "improper." Same with labels of people. Faggot, gay, homosexual, they all mean the same thing!! Besides, I`m sure you haven`t felt any qualms with throwing the racial slur of "redneck" around in the past, and even if you haven`t, you don`t ever chastise those who do. Progressive?? Yeah, progressive like multi-cultural tolerance?? Say, like rap music, as an aspect of black culture?? Yeah, the most progressive people I`ve ever seen, writing lyrics which center around the `sexual objectification` of women and murder of those who they differ with and may have a "beef" with; yep, the "progressive" agenda sure does a LOT to protect them, and their right to "free expression" without "intolerant rejection" or, really, rational observation; if that`s the future of the progressive agenda, my friend, then yo

If you can`t tell me, and resort to calling me ignorant and trying to discredit me by a MOTIVE, as in it being racist or intolerant, you will have already given-up, and all 3 people who actually care about this thread will know it. It wasn`t thatI was bringing up the point about the Jews because while everyone seems to want to blame whites for their suppossed disproportionate success (proves my point more than anything I`ve said), Jews hold just as much power, if not more, than the richest ones of non-Jewish European origin you may bring up. 2% of the population owns roughly 85% of the media? They should be targeted for disproportionate representation; but then that would be "Anti-Semetic," now wouldn`t it?? Maybe if you were able to get out of your cemented political perspective just a little bit, you wouldn`t be so dumbfounded by the gist of my remarks and be forced to resort to condemning them as innacurate, or even worse, "unprogressive!!!"

Your whole ideological construct regarding the causes and effects of the Civil War are desperately innacurate. King Lincoln attempted to levy taxes on the south that weren`t warranted (since they had less representation in Congress), and after a long period of this and other abuses, the South decided to exercise it`s right, UNDER THE CONSTITUTION, of succession, and the North was constitutionally at fault for trying to prevent this, and causing the Civil War to happen. Try and read a History book sometime, and by that I`m referring to ones besides what you were fed at school. Anyway, seeing as even long before slavery whites were responsible for the greatest innovations of Mankind, I feel justified in regretting their fewer numbers and lack of greater influence. Besides, where ELSE has all the greatest economic genius originated from, before whites?? Why don`t you tell me.

Divisiveness of my arguments, assimilate?? You mean like every single other one, which you`ve overlooked, trying to divide civilizations which possess refrigorators and bank-accounts (regardless of their amount) against those which do not?? As if they`re on opposing ends of eachother and represent incompatible, adversarial interests?? The only thing that`s going to bring these people up to the same level that we are is the CAUSE for us being on this level in the first place: Capitalism!!! Maybe their real salvation lies in taking a tip from your very screename: perhaps they should resign themselves to Assimilate; your charity only perpetuates the poverty, and as E86 said, "even if everyone in the world combined their wealth and belongings, and then redistributed it all to everyone equally, there would be no improvement." Well said you raging energy-conduit of a Mario Brother, well said...

The very fact that you proclaim that only “whites” contribute positively to society, that “non-whites” are the only ones practicing slavery today (yeah, since the “whites” had to be forced by means of violence to stop… remember, there was that whole Civil War a while back….), and, well, I don’t even know what point you were trying to make by bringing up Jews and “fags” (yet another progressive term, not at all demeaning to the people it references…), but regardless, your arguments are petty and childish. Stop waxing intellectual, get over yourself, and live in the real world…

Oh my… throw around a little Latin and some logic attainable in a freshman year philosophy course and suddenly one is a Rhode’s scholar it would seem… The very divisiveness of your arguments, Suicism, shows your lack of intellectual thought, regardless of your meager attempts to define yourself as some kind of academic. For one who apparently so abhors attacks on one’s person as opposed to one’s argument, you seem ready enough to resort to grade school name calling and feeble antics of your own (e.g. “Aqua-suxio”… hmmm, yes, very clever *rolls eyes*). Yes, yes indeed… and let’s fly with joy and without heed into antagonism with those who differ from us – VERY enlightened indeed… Delighted at being the self-proclaimed enemy of another – please, share more of this wisdom. You can pepper your diatribe with multi-syllabic fluff all you want, but you aren’t impressing anyone.

Hey Aqausixio: the fact that the film gives the white-to-non-white ratio figures of 26 white, and 74 non-white, then takes the pains to CIRCLE the 74 non-white figure (as it appears your enchantingly observant and open-mind didn`t notice...), makes it difficult NOT to ponder why indeed it was that they took the time to call attention to racial differences...

And as for your posts, as well as those of morondia and others??? Ah, the Ad-Hominem attack... meant to discredit the person, rather than their position. However, it usually results more in discrediting the position and integrity of the attacker, than the attacked... Nice one...

Why does it make a difference how people are living Now? Everyone was living in those conditions maybe 200-300 years ago. Just because it is possible to live better, do we owe everyone else? Let them figure things out for themselves. The human race didn`t have anyone helping us, so why should the rest of us help a part that has lagged behind? I believe that helping is doing more harm than good; living off the land and knowing how many children you can feed is better than counting on unreliable donations from rich people in other countries. Have you ever noticed that on those guilt-trip commercials, showing naked children running barefoot along a garbage-strewn road, there would have to be somewhere the garbage came from? If we didn`t interfere in their lives, they would be living naturally (like we all did at one point), using mud and leaves to build houses rather than corrugated tin which has to be replaced every few years.

Should I feel bad for having two pairs of pants, when the guy next city over only has one?? What if he had two pairs?? Then I guess I should only feel bad if I had four. Look, what was the point of this animation?? To make us feel lucky and GOOD about ourselves?? I don`t think so. Some ruse of quasi social-enlightenment, but it doesn`t really help do anything. If they were to give an actual avenue in which these things could be helped, like further globalization and investment by companies WITH money in these countries, then at least that would show some sign of integrity. But they present NO SOLUTION!! So stop whining about it, and don`t even think about sending them charity money; all this does is perpetuate their misery just enough, that they can reproduce and spread it to their offspring. Charity keeps them in poverty; capitalism breaks them out. I think the message of this flash presentation was to enlighten people to the imperativness of embracing Capitalism!!!

Because I am pretty sure; age, race or disability, wouldn`t really matter in such a case, therefore not altering the stats."

Actually, the state of slavery is that it`s highly predominant in Africa, where the black people live (unless you consider the economic slavery of people in communist countries like China, living for the state under horrible conditions not as people, but assets to bureaucratic power...); that kinda does alter the stats, because the predominance of slavery is in black countries... so where are the reparations?? Guess they can`t vocalize a demand for them since the victims, as well as the perpetrators, are of the same ethnic background. Can`t make it a white against black thing anymore, so it just goes ignored by all the world "civil rights" groups such as the NAACP.

What`s with you people? Stop being sad and depressed because you saw this. You all need to stop saying "I feel gulity" or "I feel depressed now." It isn`t you fault people are being lazy or having to many kids. If everyone in the world wasn`t poor we all starve and die. One happiness is based on someone elses sorrow.Okay...good. Shutup and be happy with your life. And stop blaming the rich people.Blame the goverment. We are going to die sooner or later so live life and stop being sorry. I`m going to eat a bagel...}-)

Midori, if were talking proportions.. The world would be what? 100 millionth the size it is now..
if the sun or the moon didnt own us, We are overpopulated on this new world which is smaller in proportion and the population is to.. But 1 new person to the new world will have a bigger effect seeing its small and we will probably double in population in a lifetime. SOO yeh it would be horrible.

Listen..
THE MAJORITY OF RICH PEOPLE WERENT BORN RICH THEY EARNED IT

Why should they give away there money to people who are killing themselves?

Maybe if they stop having kids there is enough food to go around! No they never thought of that... Rich people have my support. Donating is great but hell, i dont care if you dont donate, those people kill themselves in other countries.

Survival of the fittest?
No, survival of the people smart enough to realise if theres limited on food, shelter, etc, they should have a limited population.

Yes thats great their countries are in war.. Did they ever think "Well maybe i wont get involved"

90% of those people dying in the war volunteer if not more, even in other countries.

Granted there are some that are driven from there shanty towns, BUT CANT THEY WALK INTO ANOTHER COUNTRY AND FIND A JOB..
Dont say its not as easy as i say it is.
It is. Countries, big boarders, impossible to patrol. Simple.

The thing they need

I highly doubt
80% of the world lives in poverty
8% are the wealthiest people on the earth? What do you consider wealthy.. Millionaires..? 8 out of 100 people are millionaire? I doubt that... The person who made this (unfortunately) doesnt see the facts
The world isnt proportians. If you downsize it you wont keep those proportions, and as stated before why do you account for the ignorant pathetic excuses we call human being that go making kids left and right and cant afford one of them.

Heck other countries do it, look at africa, poor saps.

I don`t feel guilty, and you shouldn`t either. If you have money, and if you get by in life without getting tortured, and if you don`t die of famine, you very well shouldn`t feel bad about it.

You people who go on and on about how moving this is aren`t going to do a damn thing, so shut the hell up. Talk is cheap. Talk is worthless. Don`t think for a second that just because this pulled at your heart strings that you`re somehow one of the "good people" who "care about those less fortunate." Until you`ve given half your paycheck to a charity, you`re no better than the rest of us fat American ass holes.

You know, I am very aware that I have it fairly good. I do have a bank account and I even own a refrigerator. I get really tired of people trying to make me feel badly because I`m a white American that lives in the US though. I didn`t choose to be born here, but I AM greatful that I was. Please don`t tell me that I`m not, and that`s exactly what this was designed to do... to lay a guilt trip on those who have it fairly well off. It`s bull... just like the American media. Why don`t they just come take every thing from me since I don`t deserve it or know how to "properly" utilize it for the common good. That way MY children can starve too. After all that would be more equitable now wouldn`t it? Please, we ARE doing something... the US government already takes half my income in various taxes, and gives an enormous amount to other countries that are as not as well off as we are, and wastes who knows how much more. We`ve done more than our share and you guys are just eatin

Yeah, it puts things into perspective, but I`m guessing no one`s gonna do anything about it. Not only that, they can`t do anything about it. Since 8% is the minority, even if everyone in the world combined their wealth and belongings, and then redistributed it all to everyone equally, there would be no improvement. There has always been and always will be poverty. And unfortunatly nothing is ever gonna help that.

Even if the stats somehow are incorrect, it`s still a humbling clip that you can hardly call a waste of time. It doesn`t hurt to realize that while we do have privilages that we take for granted, there *are* people in the world that are suffering. We tend to make ourselves look ignorant by not always seeing that.

Earlyman, you clearly have no idea. I`d love to just throw you into the middle of say Ethiopia, with no money, no clothes, there is virtually no way of getting employed there because the rich have made sure of that, oh and your entire family died in a genocide because the government didn`t like where you had built your shack. Lets see how you get yourself out of that one. Git.

Define "better place". Better for humans? Sure, but for how long? We haven`t developed an efficient alternative-energy source that can be used worldwide. So the countries that become more developed start burning gasoline and wood to supplement their growing population and industrialization. The "better world" is one where we apparently can`t breathe, and get asthma... not to mention the impact on other species than ourselves, which no one seems to think about when confronted with a piece of propaganda like this. Why does nothing get done? Because we are influenced by anything that pokes at our guilt or induces emotions.

The 100 people thing is just to simplify it so it`s easier to understand....and everyone here is talking about how the world would be better if there`s only 100 people.
Anyways, this clip is very inspiring. The things that many people can only dream of, I`ve been taking them for granted. I`ll be sure to make a better use of my fortunate life now. =)

I personally thought it was a good bit of information. Though saddening, people must be INSPIRED by things like this, to help those people, to make the world (as cliche as it sounds) a better place, for not just one nation, but all.

Also, for those of you who didn`t want to see this clip, pay attention to the labels on the side. Entertainment, Lifestyle (what this film was), Games, etc. You are not being FORCED to watch this, you have decisions on this site, you can click on some other thing that suits YOU.

shlock!! It has so very little to do with luck and so much more to do with the will to do something and get yourself out of that situation. The only luck is that some one in your family maybe even you broke the cycle of throwing thier hands up and saying it`s not my fault. Why do all of these bad things happen to me. Horse poo. *sniff* sad, I know. I knew that already, really, because we talked about it a lot back in high school. They did an experiment where they had the whole class represent the population of earth. 80% of people didn`t eat lunch that day, and a handful had a feast for lunch. That was an interesting day.

Female 12
Why do you people care so much that the population of the world gets treated the same as in richer countries? The majority of the rainforests and areas where there are thriving exotic animals are in undeveloped areas. If you want everyone to be treated like the richer people, that means cutting down all those forests, driving countless species extinct. It has been said that there is no way the world`s resources can support so much waste and consumption. As far as I`m concerned, you can only pick one issue to advocate: enviromentalism or human poverty. I, for one, would rather see the world stay as it is, because drastic change "for the better" really isn`t good in the long term.

From: http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/popu...

"One can find estimates that place of the percentage of the population considered to be homosexual anywhere between 1-2% and 25%-35%, but a reasonable survey of the more controlled studies would put the figure in about the 2-3% range (for males, at least)."

Hahaha.. 2-3%.. they wish! That statement is dirty with homophobia.

Does this account for the booming populations of idiots that cannot even feed themselves? What age would most of the people be?

You would get a lot different statistics if you showed that.
