Yeah, with that and my Das Keyboard my manhood will finally be complete...

Nice concept design though. I`ll admit I thought it was real at first glance. Lack of price among other things made me suspicious. I don`t doubt it will hit the market in one form or the other before too long. It will most likely flop if they can`t make it cheap enough to sell at Best Buy, but it will most likely make an appearance.

I think what RckJmesBjtch was trying to get at in the begining was people should really look beyond the pretty pictures into a little place we call reality before getting all hot and bothered about things. It`s a cool concept, but it is just a concept. And the website kind of made that clear without too much exploration.

"Keys will use animation when needed"
WOOOO!!!!

"I have one of those, it works great, bought one for about $349"

Arrgh... Would pay some real money to get that...

Lemme address some issues here...

Guys wondering about edd`s post - Cell phones `bout $200 US dollars now without service and rebates.

Rck - Just enjoy the picture. No need for arguing if it would work or not, it`s just so darn COOL! Besides, why wouldn`t you make it? We have the technology.

Ledatru - Are you serious? Go take a picture and post it on here. Unless you got it custom made, then tell me where! :-)

Now let me get back to my incessant staring at the cool keyboard...

From the site:

Frequently Answered Answers about the Optimus keyboard
It`s in initial stage of production
We hope it will be released in 2006
It will cost less than a good mobile phone
It will be real
It will be OS-independent (at least it can work in some default state with any OS)
It will support any language or layout
Moscow is the capital of Russia
Each key could be programmed to produce any sequence
It will be an open-source keyboard, SDK will be available
Some day it will be split (`ergonomic`)
It will most likely use OLED technology (e-paper is sooo slow)
Our studio is located two blocks from the Kremlin
It will feature a key-saver
Keys will use animation when needed
It has numeric keypad because we love it
There`s no snow in Moscow during Summer
It will be available worldwide (why not?)
OEM will be possible (why not?)

So it`ll cost less than a good mobile phone, hopefully released in 2006, it will be real, and It`s in

Rck, is your point that it`s expensive or impossible? Sure it`ll be expensive at first... so was the Motorola Razor Phone... which I`m sure uses much of the same technology as this thing.

I agree with JTC: I`m sure they can make screens small enough, and I`m sure each key will be hard-clear plastic over the screen. The software capability doesn`t need to be much, especially if it`s bluetooth and talks to your PC, then the PC will handle all that. Even if it`s not bluetooth, it still sends the same signal for the "A" key when it`s pressed, and the computer interprets it to whatever "A" represents... that`s how it works when you play any game with your current keyboard.

Who knows to what extent the patent is... but I`m sure it`s not just for the idea of a key-chainging keyboard, but also includes the hookup inside.

And a flame was in order because you started off callin everyone a retard, ya big oaf!

the keyboard is already hooked up to the computer, why would it need a harddrive? It would be expensive yes, in the begining, mass production will bring the cost down to reachable levels. Look at cd/dvd burners those things were like $1000 just a few short years ago.
As far as an lcd screen on every key, it may require a bit more juice than USB provides but nothing a rechargable battery couldnt handle. and a thin layer of plastic could protect it from pressure.

It`s a great concept and I`m sure it will be available in the near future then be affordable in 5-10 years.

Rck, i thought your point was that they would never work, not that they would be expensive...

and besides, if david101(i think that was his username)is right about the patent thing, then that means somebody figured out how to make a keyboard like this. there isn`t just one way to make an idea reality. why don`t you keep your pointless b*tching to yourself and just let the rest of us enjoy the future that is to come? damn...

well, anyway, i think it looks totally awesome.

oh, i also forgot to mention that the keyboard would also have to handle, not just showing the keys with accents, but also send the different signal for a letter with an accent, thus requiring extra processing power. so....how many buttons does the nintendo ds have?

Male 459
ok, let me know when you can fit an individual lcd screen on each key, and it not break when pressure is put on it. along with software capability (for other characters and designs), with a nice hardrive, but like i said, you would need a usb port (most likely) to upload data, so gotta fit that in there too. along with power to have all those lcd screens up for hours at a time, reading off of the software it is running, with it`s cpu (which would get rather hot) and a graphics card (wouldnt get quite as hot), you would need some really good heat sinks or a fan, more than likely a fan. the patent pending merely means that they are working on getting the rights to a keyboard that has pictures for each individual key and such, not that they are making it..so as soon as you figure out how to make one, or they release it, a flame was not in order.

RckJmesBjtch, your an idiot... How do cell phones, PDAs, PSPs, Nintendo DS, and Digital Cameras work? All they would have to do is amke it one big screen split up into different parts. You wouldnt need all of that extra crap... [/flame]

Awsome!!! I want one if they make it.

it doesn`t yet exist, but people should realise that the site is featuring an INDUSTRIAL DESIGN. furthermore if you scroll right to the bottom it says PATENT PENDING. it is in the works i.e designing, framing, engineering. whether or not we will see it in the shops is another question.

Yo, RckJmesBjtch...

Please explain to me how my cell phone works again? You know, with it`s tiny screen? and windows capabilities? and it doesn`t have a fan or anything that big/complicated? And I do plug it in now and then, but it`s got a battery.

Maybe this keyboard is not real just yet, it may just be a concept piece, but that`s how ideas happen and get into the main stream. But one day it`ll be commonplace. It`ll be expensive when someone takes the time to bring it to market, but so is all new technology.

THEY ARENT dratING REAL! RETARDS! CLICK ON THE MUS MOUSE THING LOOK AT THE PHOTOSHOP! it has no way of buying one, expected release date, msrp, or a list of dealers.....it has an art director and crap too, should be obvious it isnt real. even the government doesnt have that kind of technology because lcd screens cant be made that small and light, plus the microproccessor in they keyboard would either need flashram or a hard drive, and that would require a large battery or a plug in, most likely a plug in because of the power needed to make the lcd screens work. it would be immensely heavy, and would also start to get warm, then hot, so it would need a fan, oh, did i mention it would also need a graphics card and software downloading capability, so there you would probably need a usb port, extra weight and power needed, not to mention added size. so if were real you would have a 20lb (about 10kg)keyboard the size of a house. use commom sense people!
