Couldn"t they have designed this airport a little better?

The airport in Bangkok has an 18-hole golf course between the runways. Presumably nobody steps away from an important putt to ask the gallery to quiet down.

So much for airline security. How easy could some nutjob attack one of those planes?

a tunnel might seem easier, but perhaps the earth beneath the runway wasn`t suitable for one...or the runway could have been placed before the road, making it impossible to build without tearing up the runway as well...

i don`t think the problem would be waiting for a plane to land/take off...the problem would probably the frequency of planes landing/taking off.

Ive been to Gibralter and its pretty cool crossing the runway. it was built like that because thats the only flat part of the country.Makes sense to me.Funny thing is that No planes on approach can cross into spannish airspace so the approaches are pretty spectaculer with all the turns. BTW whoever said it looks photoshoped should really shut the f**k up.

well ive been to Gibraltar, it really isnt that big at all, and its not much of an inconvenience because they dont get many flights going in at all, i went there for 2 days trips whilst i was in spain and we spent about 8 hours there and not one plane landed on both days, i think its only small planes and private planes that land there, main national and international will go to malaga or the other nearest.

I think it`d be pretty obvious that they wouldn`t have designed it that way if there were any other choice.

The runway lies at the top of Gibraltar, which isn`t an island,it`s at the bottom of Spain. The only time you have to cross the road is when leaving the airport to travel into Gibraltar, or when leaving Gibraltar to cross the Spanish border. The chances of having a crash are slim, as there are only about 4 flights a day. The landing is pretty rough on this runway, because the plane has to slow very quickly because the runway is so short. Gibraltar is 2 iles by 3 miles, with a very big rock in the middle! Hence the short runway...

Leave my "stupidly" designed sentence alone. Stupidly IS a word. And what are you talking about, that`s an dreadful place for an airport to go.

What if somone got trapped? That would suck so bad.

It`s built that way because it`s Gibraltar.

The runway cuts all the way across the island from one coast to the other, so there has to be an access road to allow people from one side to go to the other (and to the airport terminal).

I could be totally wrong, but I believe I remember heaing once that Gilbralter, owned by Britain, is so small that they have no choice. I remember seeing tourists, if you want to go to the top of the rock, have to run across the airport.

Actually it probably wouldn`t take less time because the gates close so long before the plane comes, just for safety (I assume)

^^ What a "stupidly" designed sentence. ^^
Anyway, the concept isn`t terrible, and I bet it would take less time than a train.
