Webs spun by spiders under the influence of different drugs

The LSD spider web is complete, only the you can`t see the thin threads on the lower half of the web because of the cameras resolution. What a perfectly symmetrical web.

Since spiders bodies are a lot less complex than ours, they might not even have some of the receptors in their brains for these drugs to bind too. Therefore it may just be sort of a general toxicity test. They probably do have a serotonin receptor though, which is the one LSD bind too. LSD is actually very non-toxic and any talk of "brain damage" is complete and utter rubbish.

its funny since i just downed 120 mg`s of caffeine before this in less than 10 seconds, a starbuck`s doubleshot espresso & cream, after i had a pepsi(38 mg`s), and now i`m drinking coffee, which is 110 milligrams. equals 268 milligrams. yipee!!!

They never said how much caffiene they used in relation to how much of the other substances. They could have used one spider-sized dose of LSD and fifty spider-sized doses of caffiene.

Kinda old, but still cool to look at. I like the LSD one, kinda like the spider got halfway done and said "ah, f**k it." LOL I also like the fact that the one on marijuana fell asleep before finishing. LOL

Did the spider on LSD see humans crawling all over him and freak out screaming "GET EM OFF GET EM OFF!!!" while the spider on weed just laughed his ass off? Just a thought.

Hey, it`s NASA that did it, PETA still haven`t forgiven them for all the monkeys they launched into space and never brought back...

Hey Santos

"...as for stuff like caffeine or LSD they probably just had him walk around in a puddle of it for 5-15 mins and let him absorb a good amount of it."

You know where those puddles are?

Ha thats great! The LSD one did look pretty good but i think there was only the main lines, not those little ones branching between the "radii"

...They got the driugs into the spiders by feeding the drug to flies, and then feeding the flies to the spiders, I think. At least that`s what this other website did, which was practically the same thing. I might be wrong though.

Actually, it`s plausible that caffeine will really mess with someone if they previously have a neurological problem, even if they have it under control. That`s why my damn neurologist won`t let me drink Pepsi anymore. Almost any nervous system problem is made worse by caffeine.

"Even one of the links on this web site said that this experiment had no bearing on human behavior."

Humans don`t spin webs XD

This is a good place to make my first post since I`m an entomologist. Most chemicals, including caffiene effect spiders and insects differently than humans. Even one of the links on this web site said that this experiment had no bearing on human behavior.

I have a hard time believing that the effects of caffiene on a spider really translate well into the effects of caffiene on a human as the article suggest.

And, damnit, they have mescaline LSD and marijuana, but wheres the damn ether? I can see skipping alcohol, but skipping ether? Absurd.

What would have been interesting was to give the spiders a cigarette, that would !#@$ them up worse than the caffeine will. They`ll either get cancer or become chain smokers.

Meh, thats not too hard. For most of it they can just toss them in a small container with a high content of whatever. The marijuana should have been real easy, as for stuff like caffeine or LSD they probably just had him walk around in a puddle of it for 5-15 mins and let him absorb a good amount of it.

http://www.caffeineweb.com/ looks like an `Anti-caffeine` Website. "Thousands are in mental institutions today because of no greater matter than that of the use of caffeine."- This seems kind of far fetched. Caffeine being the most popular drug of most industrialized countries would mean that most everyone would be in a rubber room...

^^^ Ha! Ha! Not so surprizing. Spiders have nervous systems similar to our own. At least they got a free buzz out of the deal...

Thats wierd, because when I`m on 2 of those substances I spin square spider webs. To each his own though, right?
