Stats are so often misinterpreted. You can often find two stats that seem to be directly correleted but are not actually linked at all.

Agree with paradox, this of course showing consistancy may prove true, however the percentages prove minimal when calculating the percentage of divorce with it.

i would think its true cause think most males want to have a son. The fact that a father is less likly to leave a family because he has is a son is understandable. Just like a mother makes a emotional connection with a daughter a father does the same with a son.

For the perfect example look at Henry VIII. He only had daughters and was on his sixth wife when he died. Sez it all really...

"weird coincidence"? A coincidence is when it happens in a hand full of cases. For it to set a notable statistic speaks volumes.

I think parents hope more for a son, but I know that growing up I was the perfect little girl for my dad. And actually, it was my MOM who left and my dad who fought to keep us. So blah to the theory

Me and my sister`s parents are divorced and my sister lives with my dad, and i live with my mom.(b/c my dad thinks I`m a crackhead for some reason) so actually it works out well for my family b/c we all live with the person we get along w/ the most, and we still all see eachother.

My parents are happily married and they have 3 girls! I thought people got divorced because of marital problems and the kids have nothing to do with it.

It`s not quite the daughters who are causing these divorces. It`s the unmet (and occasionally unsavory) sexual desires of the (supposedly) adult fathers. People pretend there is no answer because they`re terrified of facing incest and realizing they are responsible for protecting the children, but incest and the schizophrenia which incest causes are common. Around 85% of the population is latent (i.e. unhealed) with these problems. The answer is religious, but nobody wants to hear that. They`d rather write these half-assed studies than face the fact that we`re all spoiled and sick.

so according to Samo`s pioneering theorys we can reasonably infer that pop music IS a factor in divorce. BAN POP AROUND THE WORLD! (AND EMO ROCK! AND ALL OTHER TYPES OF CRAPPY POP MIXED WITH A LITTLE ROCK! YEAH! GRR!)

I don`t think the article is saying that girls cause divorce, but rather that parents are more willing to work through their problems with a son in the family. The cause of the divorce/problems may be wholly unrelated to the kids.

I disagree with katbenedario; in claiming that the reason for most divorces is a sexual desire between the father and a daughter. Thats simply opinion, particularly claiming 85% of the population has this problem and is untreated of it, as there is no real research of fact to back that up. In truth Divorce is simply caused by rushing into marriage and an unwillingness to work out problems. People just feel its easier to give up.

    SamoDaJerbal -lol

katbenedario - I disagree. Are you tryin to say all blokes fancy their daughters? So therefore it`s mostly the blokes fault when a marriage breaks down. It comes down to either the parents realised they don`t love each other or shouldn`t have got married in the first place. Nothing to do with the kids and I`m angry with anyone that thinks otherwise.

For the record - my parents have been happily married for 24 years now, so there is no personal angst here

I`m not sure about this whole divorce theory. But I definately agree that fathers generally prefer having boys over girls -- not just because they are more likely to do "guys" stuff together, but because girls are predisposed to causing as much chaos as possible for every man in their lives!

well, i want a daughter, not a son...cuz girls are cute as babys...and i don`t care about the teen years of girls...if i get a divorce, it will be because me and my husband are completely uncompatible, and my daughter will have nothing to do with it

"Next, parents of girls are quite a bit more likely to try for another child than parents of boys, which suggests that there are more parents hoping for sons than for daughters." Or that could say when they have daughters they still think children are lovely, but when they have sons they say "no more."

My theory is that in MOST cases, if a marriage is doomed to fail, it was doomed from the beginning.

If something like the gender of a child contributes so greatly to whether a marriage fails or succeeds, then the couple didn`t try hard enough.
