Not buying it either. It`s just a "have to see it to believe it" situation. And the pics "showing" her in the process painting does nothing to prove that she is the painter either.

Eigt year olds can barely draw a STRAIGHT LINES so how the hell could she paint those pictures??!!?! And why would God care about "gifting" an eight year old? Somone could claim that it was to show the world he exists, but look at what Jesus did when people were superstious! Now most are skeptical and this is almost nothing! Why would He bother; few will ever know of this little brat and her cheesy pictures.
By the way nice horse running through mountain stream with bubbles, I wonder how people have it airbrushed on their vans.

Rikushix, I think YOU need to get your terminology right. And Atheist is one who believes that there is no God. An agnostic believes that it`s impossible to determine whether there is or is not a god/God.

Bah, doesn`t impress me that much. 1) I really doubt she`s not getting a hell of a lot of coaching 2) I could draw that well at age 6, and if my parents had took me out of school and let me paint all day, I`m sure I`d have been that good too. 3) the paintings aren`t Picasso or anything... I can`t see any of the details, and the layout and subject matter are what I`d expect from an 8 year old... which she is. She`ll probably be great one day, but now she`s just a tallented 8 year old with pushy parents.

So how can someone say this is real? Just cause God has somehow blessed her with the talent? I think its fake, most kids I`ve seen with art talent are those who use abstract art and get lucky and produce something for some rich sucker to buy it off them out of pity or encouragement, whatever! No kid is capable of realism and even so, colors are a mystery, no such kid can comprehend.

Wow. It`s funny! People, including myself, are bitching about a kid painter. Hahaha. Guys if you love God please go ahead. If you don`t,that`s fine too:D I personally don`t give a hoot either way:P Also, how is an athiest possible? They are said to belive in nothing, but the BELIEVE in BELIEVING in nothing. It`s not mean, just a common thought. P.s...how come God lets children starve and people`s bodies rot with cancer? Hmmm? Please answer because I`ve wondered since my grandma`s body rotted while she was still in it. Jesus must REALLY love her huh? >:(

The only thing that`s making me a bit skeptical is the fact that in those pictures of her painting, in one of the pictures, she appears to have a figure, which -really- makes me wonder if that was someone else.

I would probably actually believe this if they -videotaped- her working on something. But until then...I`m neutral.

Wow, Rikushix, who said I was even talking about you? It was a statement to all posters who had a bad sentiment about the God that this girl credited her talent to.
And wow, so very impressive that you posted what? Five times? Too bad all it managed to communicate was blah blah blah. I don`t care. If I wanted to, I could pick apart your entire arguement. But I`m not going to post multiple times to do so. It`s not worth it. I`ll just say:

1- There is nothing wrong with my terminology, not everything is about you, and I don`t know why you took what I said so personally for yourself. There were others who claimed to be athiest, those were the people I was addressing.
2- You don`t know that she didn`t do the paintings, or that she had a spiritual transformation. That is, dare I say, A GENERALIZED STEREOTYPE to think that she couldn`t and can`t.

This is exactly what I meant about religion haters. They sure can dish it, but they can`t take it at all.

Ahh, another thing, orange_panties:

"And to all the haters who don`t believe she has talent, or that her parents do it for her, you are JEALOUS. So jealous you`ll pick on a 10 year old`s art over the internet. She`s a prodigy, who wants to thank God for her gifts. The same way any sports player, or celebrity would."

Of course we`re jealous! Isn`t that obvious??? Or at least, if we aren`t jealous, we wish we could paint like that. Those are some amazing paintings. I have absolutely no artistic talent and I would love to have the skill expressed in those paintings.

They just aren`t painted by her.

Oh and regarding the paintings themselves: I did have the notion when I saw them for the first time that they were genuine, but after seeing what she did as a four year old...that`s compete crap...I pretty much say that`s fake.

And how does the daughter of two atheists undergo "spiritual transformation" at four years old??

You need to do two things here:

1) Stop writing outrageously generalized, stereotypical statements
2) Get your terminology right
3) Stop writing outrageously generalized, stereotypical statements

Male 577
And I am not an atheist! Get your terms right. Atheists are people who really don`t believe in any god and are not faithful in any way. Agnostics are people who hold the specific belief that there is no God. The important thing is that ONE WHO IS BOTHERED BY OR DOES NOT LIKE DEVOUT CHRISTIANITY IS NOT NECESSARILY AN ATHEIST OR OTHERWISE PERSON WITHOUT RELIGION OR FAITH. Now that that is clear:

Keep sitting in your family`s house on the computer for the rest of your life, eating doritos and playing the high and mighty athiest. Don`t forget your `satan loves you` shirt sized XXL, black hair dye and your favorite Hot Topic bondage pants that grandma got you for Christmas. You`re so cool, so original and SOoOo edgy. PUH-lease."

And you`re jumping to conclusions that supposedly all people with the slightest "disrespect" for devout Christianity are satan-worshipping, atheist nerd/emo goths. I have little or no "faith" if you want to call it that, and while I don`t think this is entirely being "shoveled down our throats" I too grow tired of people quoting God-this and god-that.

Continuing on:

I myself like her work I believe she painted them she is talented. I have to say though I am an athiest but that is my choice and i have nothing wrong with people who believe in a god as long as they don`t shove it down my throat (like the one poster said) stating their beliefs as if they were trying to get me to convert although i was a christian once.
My only problem with religion is proof or lack of it I tend to be more scientific on the subject, however I know people will believe what they will believe and that`s what makes us human :)

"It was God`s timing; I had been looking for a Jesus model for two years, and I could not find the right face. Then one day I asked my family to pray with me all day. We petitioned God to send the model right through our front door. The next day a tall carpenter came in. He was so humble, and I was surprised that he agreed to model for me. But a week later he called back to say that he was unworthy to represent his master."

yeah....a humble carpenter, i think i heard that somewhere before. oh! she converted her athiest family at age 4!! amazing. d`ya think they made her toast and tied her shoes afterwards?

just cause she says its God inspired doesnt mean it is. if it is, then more power to her and her believers. theres been more than a few people who have cashed in on His name before tho. for all you that belive its true cause she mentions God, i think Jimmy Swaggart is still looking for donations

I`ve seen many pieces in this style, and they`re always done by a "company," the same way that Thomas Kincade paintings are really by a group of people who are all trained the same way, then Kincade himself comes along and puts two or three paint strokes on the thing, and they call it a Thomas Kincade. These have the same kind of look to them: highly engineered, gimmicky, obviously NOT done by an eight year-old girl, sorry.

Why do I have this incredible feeling that the parents pencil in the portraits and she does a colour by numbers job? It`s still painting. But not art. What I would have liked to have seen were the pictures she has been doing over the past 9 years? Could she sketch at age 6? Draw geometry at age 3? Or are we asked to look at these pictures and believe that one day she picked up a paint brush which Holy Lord Jesus (rather ironic name he has for himself, you must admit, given that he attempted to plug his own unearthly modesty throughout his tome of barbaric fiction) gave her the divine talent to behold and painted a masterpiece on the spot?

Oh and I think her poetry is a far greater measure of her self-proclaimed genius. Take a look for yourself; if it`s genuinely hers then at least I`ll congratulate her for her early grasp of pretension but if her mentors have given her a helping hand then this increases the humour value ten-fold.

Jayembee- That makes sense. I`m just a nit-picker =P

I don`t know if I believe she actually paints them or not. Some people are just naturally gifted. Singing, mathematics, writing, lots of things. Me and my brother both began to read at high levels, way younger than the expected ages.

Still, I`d love to see a video of her actually painting (seeing artists create things before my eyes makes me appreciate it even more.)

Mostly I think everybody`s just jealous of her, I know I am. I`m an artist myself and I get jealous because I know I`ll never be that good. Everytime I see her work and think of how young she is I feel this surge of jealousy and hatred boil up inside me. It`s all I can to not to write mean things like a lot of the poeple here have.

In regards to the whole "God is my inspiration" controversy, I do think that her words may seem a little holier-than-thou, but when you think of the other in your face Christians who are a ton worse than her, it`s nothing much. I myself am a Christian who, although I`ve had many bumps along the way, is determined to stay so. I firmly believe in God but that doesn`t mean that every other sentance I say comes with the word God in it. I hope that you all remember that Christians are just people with different beliefs than you, and we don`t want to get put-down anymore than anybody else.

Mrknowitall and pooface: Her parents were athiests until SHE became a christian, THEN they became Christians because of her

Bloing: That`s just mean

diemorondie: she also writes poetry and has a great understanding of writting. Some people are just born geniuses I guess. (and you`re acting like a Noob)

Totari: Painters often apply undertones before the actual colour goes down to give depth and a tint of a different colour, this might be an explanation.

Religion Bashers: Why do you hate religion so much? Sure there are people who distort religion, and use it for their own means, but thats not the fault of the religion is it? It`s the fault of the people who distorted it! Be angry at those people if you want, but it`s the people who really believe in the teachings are the ones who WON`T shove it down your throat, and get bashed the most for other people`s idiocy.

Second:
"I refuse to prove that I exist,` says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.`
`But,` says Man, `the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn`t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don`t. Q.E.D.`
`Oh dear,` says God, `I hadn`t thought of that,` and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
`Oh, that was easy,` says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing."

Just because you all want to believe that this girl did this doesn`t make it true. And just because people are skeptical doesn`t make it untrue. There are facts to look at though...Her parents refuse to allow camera crews to video tape her painting because it will "ruin the moment" seems shady to me. Added to which, no child that young has the ability to form such strong religious beliefs without being fed them by an adult, and almost everyone will admit that her religious views are likely the product of her parents coaxing. That having been said...religious people that want to spread the "word of god" this badly will often do ridicuous things to spread their message (ie hoaxes). Until you see VIDEO of this girl painting, don`t believe a word of it.

Maybe it`s just the lighting (or she simply changed it after) but on the art page (http://www.artakiane.com/akiane_art.htm... in the large photo of her painting I see differences between the painting in the photo and further down on the page. The eyes are a different colour, for instance.

Um, exsqueeze me. The content of her paintings and especially the titles imply quite an in-depth understanding of the Buy-bull. And being that she was 8-10 years old when she painted these and kids learn to read when they`re what 6, I`m not buying this. I mean, "Jesus the Forgotten Years?" How could a child of that age grasp the idea that the Buy-bull doesn`t chronicle Jesus` entire life? Either she has been reading, interpreting and analyzing the Buy-bull since she was a fetus in her mother`s womb or this is just another case of avarice in which parents find a way to cash in by exploiting their children. I decide to go with the latter. And as my friends Adam and Jamie would say, "This myth is BUSTED!"

Mr.KnowItAll, she`s a Christian, she paints religious artwork; obviously her belief system plays a role in her creativity and she shouldn`t be censored from talking about that. Speaking about what you believe is not the same as shoving those beliefs down someone`s throat. I didn`t get the impression that she was telling other people that they should share her beliefs, she was simply stating what they were. You on the other hand, seem to feel justified in chastising people who don`t share yours. Don`t be a hypocrite.

She HAS obviously been taught to think and behave in such a way by her parents. It`s kind of annoying - I mean, I`m a christian too and I don`t give all my accomplishments praise to God. Not that there`e anything wrong with it - it`s just annoying and a bit over her head I think.

This girl is incredibly talented and her works are inspirational, whether you`re a believer or not. I don`t see a point in starting an argument that has never been won (that of the existence/absence of god/God). This little girl has faith in something larger than herself that gives her life purpose; I don`t see how that could be considered a bad thing. This comment, btw, is coming from one who has never been able to establish a connection with or faith in a higher power.

I never said it wasnt real:) I personally don`t care about it. If I spent my life debating an 8 year old painter then something is wrong...

Well, um. Yeah. Too much god. Not enough touting of her skill. I don`t consider it god given.

Never said i could prove or dis-prove anything. An 8 year old child who is crediting its talent on this so called "God" has obviously been taught by its parents about this so called `God`. As for wishing you had half her talent, you just haven`t practiced enough...

I`m not bothered if she`s Christian and thinks she`s Jesus` puppet or whatever, she is incredible, and her talent is amazing! I get the feeling she`ll be one of the great artists of the future!

She is a Christian artist. She paints because she openly professes her love of God. In my opinion she is a very inspirational to children over the world and adults already adore her.
