Liger`s are only seen in captivity, as that`s the only time a lion and tiger would be close to eachother, they don`t mate when they`re in the wild, same with the tigons. Both are small compared to an actual lion or tiger. It`s just a hybrid.

Don`t most zoos keep their animals separated? I mean how many zoos do you know that keep all the big cats in one cage? katbenedario, the zoo didn`t purposely breed the lion and the tiger together... it probably happened naturally, but I can`t figure out why they don`t just keep the cats apart?

Bah, you wouldn`t believe how many people have asked me about ligers and whether they have magical powers (I`m a zoology student). Yes, the movie was cool, but there`s no magic, honestly some people believe there is!

There`s tigons too... and I don`t know what it`s called when you mix a horse and a mule, but wouldn`t it be cool if you could mix a lot more animals together?

Tigons are very similar to ligers in many ways, but are quite a bit different also. <<<That sounds like it was written by a ten year old. I think that lions and tigers could do the nasty and have little mixed up babies, but what is the point?

Hmmm wow I thought Ligers didn`t exist! I just thought Napolean Dynamite made it up since he always makes up mythical creatures. I love that movie `Tina you fat lard come get your dinner!` :-P LOL

From now on, anyone that ever quotes Napoleon Dynamite EVER AGAIN, will be bludgened, possibly to the death.

It hasn`t been funny since... oh, last year.

katbenedario: no need to kill yourself, but be grateful for the relatively short lifespan you (and all of us) have. What humans have done till now as far as playing Frankenstein is concerned, is absolutely nothing compared with what they`re going to do.

katbenedario people said stuff about magic because it was in a movie.

Anyway, I seen this on the news a long time ago but it`s still pretty interesting.

I`m not sure how I feel about this whole "breeding in captivity" thing. We breed (or used to) breed mules to help out with farm work and travelling, a practical reason, but why breed a zoo animal? Just to show school children that we dominate all animals?! (Besides other people`s fairly thoughtless comments about "magic.") I say stop playing Frankenstein and show the natural world some respect. Yeah, I`m probably 100 years late saying that and everyone`s going to disagree. Okay, I`ll kill myself then.

that`s pretty damn cool. i didn`t think they were real...but wow. first thing that came to mind was "that`s photoshopped," but why would an actual zoo photoshop a tiger and a lion together? it`s real. coolness.

Unfortunately, ligers will now always be linked to Napoleon Dynamite. Good movie, but overrated by far. I`ve known of ligers for a long time.

To the guy who said this was photoshopped:You don`t get out much, do you? Oh, never mind, you`re Austrailian. The liger thingy has been on the news every now and then for a while. That thing is HUGE. And something that this fails to say is that a tigon is a dwarf, a liger is a giant.
