i don`t get it? they are awfuul and extremely boring! they are just modern pictures and its very easy to tell because the barber with the big ugly mushtashce is a family friend of mine and he got paid to do it. there was a big photo shoot of it for a school slide show for the british school St. Swithun`s Juniors who are learning about WWI. My daughter watched it. And the hige pile of rubble was made with the remains of the old swimming pool building

Matthias: They didn`t have color photography back then, but today`s technology makes it seem like they did. They use a computer to isolation one thing like a hat, give it the proper color that it has in real life, and then based on that, a computer goes in a fills in the rest of the colors as they would appear in real life.

Today`s technology is amazing.

Pretty cool. I`m a big war-head, but I had never seen these pictures before. I knew they had some tentative color picture technology, but since it was so delicate and expensive, they didnt use it in battles. Then again, these are all taken in non-battle situations. To tell the truth, I thought they were fake at first, because I saw something out of place in one pic, but hten I realized it was something else (can`t remember what now). Cool pics, eve if they are of the Frenchies :-P

If you read the posts under all those pictures, some people are saying that the color was digitized. Then, some of them are saying that no, color photos had already been invented back then. Either way, those photos are fascinating!

The bathroom thing in the bottom picture is better than the one we had in Iraq!

It`s really amazing how much more `real` these people become by adding just a little bit of colour.
Didn`t even know they could already do that back then.

wow, that`s really fascinating. black and white photos always look dated and removed from our own lives, but these color ones make it seem scarily real and relevent. it`s amazing to see the war as they did.

Wow, they were fascinating. Thanks! It`s weird seeing real photos of that era, instead of war films with that time portrayed as true as the film-makers possibly can. Goes to show they`re pretty accurate in their depictions, eh.
