To think it lived like 10 months with the extra head. I`d be completely freaked out! I know thats shallow of me, but it`d really unnerve me!

I`m thinking photoshop on this two-head thing. The torso attached to the second head just doesn`t look real!

And that mermiad story, although freaky, and scary I feel like the author of the article was trying to invoke sympathy too much. 1 in 60,000 to 1 in 100,000? Surely that should be 1 in 100,000!

The artical says it`s not capable of "independant life", not that it`s not capable of life at all. My own head isn`t capable of "independant life." It needs my body to keep it alive. But that little girl`s body was doing all the work for 2 brains, and her body would probably die due to the strain. The second head might have been almost "normal" intelligence wize, the kid`s only 10mos old after all, but can`t talk cuz it doesn`t have any lungs to breath with, can`t ever eat, can`t ever do anything but stare at the world and blink back... if that`s all you could do, would you want to live?

Here`s the mermaid girl: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6941620/

oh... i see. stubby is just a child. i thought i was dealing with an adult. that explains it. i hope when you have children (IF) some day that you never have to face a tragedy such as this. until then ... try to show a little more respect, it will take you a lot further in life than you think.

thank you facedown... truley a gentleman. stubby... it was just my opinion. i thought this was a site where we could leave our comments freeley... not a chat room where we could insult one another. "f@cking hippy" what was that? so uncalled for. just remember out of the abudance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:34)

I am a nurse, and spoke to some doctors at work. It is very unlikey that this story is even true, yet if it is, the "head" could not survive, it would only have a brain stem and nerves, no heart, lungs, bowels...etc It needed to be destroyed, the baby girl survived. Bleedly hearts out there do some research and face facts of life, the freakish head, if true at all, needed to be destroyed

It sure is an interesting moral dilemma. Consign a kid to a life of poor health and ridicule, or kill a different, perhaps thinking, human being. I suppose they did the right thing in the situation. In a perfect world the second child could have had a chance. But alas, no perfect world.

... Yeah.

wow....interesting. glad everything went well. The head was parasitic, so it would just kind of feed off of the regular baby`s body, right? I think the right thing was done.

stubby, calm down, let mhhdaycare have their own opinion and you can have yours aight?

Mhhdaycare, shut up. Think about the actual LIVING child. The other head/torso wasn`t a baby. It wouldn`t have lived at all if it weren`t for the connection with the fully developed one, because of the blood flow. Freemotion is pretty much right on that one.
I hate you f*cking hippies.

Plus, would you rather have one living child, or none at all? (If you insist the torso was living)

The head never would have been able to live anything which approaches a normal life and most likely would have been a drain on the other boy. It was probably saving one child and saving the other from a life of abject misery.

would any of you want to live life with two heads? One of them only capable of blinking? I think that the humane thing was done here.

Yea, mhhdaycare, the head was never living in the first place, it didn`t develope fully.

mhhdaycare, the extra head was never living. The article said "...It wasn`t capable of independent life" So it`s not murder, it`s amputation.

Wow! That`s one of the most interesting looking parasetic twins I`ve seen. I`m glad they could remove it successfully.

I think they were putting it out of its misery. And it probably would have been a major strain on the other child to the point of death. It was probably for the best.

no actually, it was not capable of independant life so from a technical standpoint, it wasn`t living in the first place. anyways darn i couldnt see the video frickin real player. but wow the mermaid girl thing was pretty scary... i wish them both the best in their recovery and whatnot.

That`s sad, and I feel sorry for the kid. But I have no shame in saying that it really weirds me out.

Check out the links at the bottom and look at the "mermaid girl." To quote Ron White, "things that make you go `ehwwhww.`"

Yeah MSNBC wouldn`t put up a story if it wasn`t real. But, it is pretty crazy looking. Especially how they said that the extra head could blink and smile...but I guess that`s probably from nerves and pulses from the brain. Creepy!!!
