Link: Robot Dances with Woman - Pretty smooth moves by the robot, it`s only a matter of time before we all have robot butlers.

That is all pre-programmed, the real skill of robotics will come with the manufacture of a robot that can make it`s own moves up.

The point of these robots isn`t for AI, it`s for pushing the envelope of bi-pedal robots, a field that has been extremely difficult to simulate. Humans have a very sophisticated system to prevent us from falling over all the time, it`s proven difficult to emulate that in robots.

I imagine there are probably a few dozen actuators and gyros being used on the robot to maintain its balance, and it`s come a long way from the Aibo that Honda had made a few years ago (I also hear the new generation of thier robot can actually jog)

That video shows a really tremndous accomplishment. It is definitely a form of AI - a standard control system would not have been able to deal with such complicated motion. Too bad they`re still stuck on using sigmoidal backpropogation. I`m surprised they got that far with it, actually.

Wow, look at all the brainy informed comments here... yeah, it is a shame they`re still using sigmoidal backpropogation. It`s even more of a shame that I have no idea what that is :)
