Illegal for passenger cars to have a safety device which helps save lives? I`d like to see that law.

if you watch it closely, every one of those cars that were involved in that accident have the brakes locked up... if you`re that stupid to not know locked wheels don`t steer, you deserve to be involved in an accident... that`s Gods way of taking ignorance off the road in times like that...

lol, i have a 1969 coronet 440(everyday/project car), it weighs alot, and is SOLID steel. i think it would survive an accident like that unscathed

buddy:

well, the last time I checked they were. only trucks that required you to have a CDL license were allowed to use chains. chains tend to cause unecessary damage to the road surface so they were made illegal for common passenger cars to drastically reduce the number of people using them. they might have changed the law, i don`t know and i`m too lazy to check. :) but the point is, chains are not going to help you on ice.

Snow chains are not illegal in Calfornia for cars, in fact they are encouraged. That`s bizzare, is that an east coast thing?

I dont think this is funny. Why people laugh at this is beyond me. I am outraged. Someone could have gotten hurt. These poor folks workj hard all there lives and there vehicles are damged do to untreated roadways. This must be somewhere near my town cause all the salt truck fellows are in the Mcdonald drinking coffee whilst the rest of us are out on these dangerous roadways trying to perform our daily operation.

DJ, it`s illegal for common passenger cars to have snow chains. besides, even if it WERE legal, chains are NOT going to help you on solid ice...especially if you`re not expecting it. But I guess you wouldn`t know that seeing as you`re from California.

I`ve seen conditions like this here. Freezing rain is worse than snow, that stuff`s brutal.

Getting run over by your car (and/or once behind it) jumping out of the vehicle would be painful as well I imagine.

When your airbag goes off and you`re at such a slow speed it`s pretty painful. I would be tempted to jump too. Tempted...I`d probably just scoop my seat as far back as I could.
