They are using a technique called "jumping", which dates back to the 13th century. Stay tuned and you will see them using a technique called "dying", which dates back to...well, I guess back to when Adam killed Eve for eating his apple.

Like I said David is one of the most daring... most of the time free running doesn`t necessarly mean jumping from building to building, there are tonnes of cool "tricks" that are done that don`t involve death defying stunts. Stuff like the car jump in the video, wall flips, stuff like that.

This is a skill that is generally trained in a gym with gymnastics equipment and what David does is a culmination of years of practice.

You avoid broken limbs by falling correctly (yes there is a way to fall correctly) and you see him do it in the video lots, which is when you land, you drop and roll, this takes all the downward kinetic energy and transfers it into forward kinetic energy.

Teacher is making you do it?! That`s crazy! I saw it in a commercial for some car by Nissan or Honda or something, and there was a guy jumping around the city, and at the bottom it said "Do not attempt professional stunts!"
