Link: Bush Inauguration Protest - Some footage of the protests going on at the inauguration, probably not shown much on TV.

Why do we need to spend so much money on the inauguration of a sitting president anyway?

Just once I would like to see a tribute to those that have died that doesn`t have an underlying democratic theme, a "get us out of iraq" theme, or an anti-bush theme.

The song is called "Jacob`s Ladder", by Chumbawamba (the same group that brought you "Tubthumper").

Anyway, this was on C-Span yesrterday. As for the inaugural parties, they are mostly traditional. (yes, clinton had them too). and most of the funding for them came from private parties, not government funding. And i agree 150% with what zooks said. all of the videos we see nowadays honoring the troops have democratic views.

i take that back. the song that was playing was to the tune of "jacob`s ladder"...but the lyrics were changed to give it a democratic view. figures---a great way to ruin a good song.

I`m with you there, all the Anti-bush mumbo jumbo from MTV clones who have no idea whats going on unless Carson Daily or John Stewart tells them need to sit back, think for a bit, and try to come up with a valid point.

This is the worst-made protest video I`ve ever seen. It`s like the guy`s feet are frozen to the ground, and he has no ability to hold a camcorder, and the editor has never even tried editing before.

That said, the protesters give a powerful tribute, although as was said before, a tribute does not have to have a democratic theme, a "get us out of iraq" theme, or an anti-bush theme.

Errant stereo type there. I`m Anti Bush, and arrived at my conclusion via an education in an institution of higher learning, personal ethics and experiance. I do not watch MTV nor John Stewart, I`m a professor with an m.div., world traveled and highly intellectual. I resent your comment that liberals only arrive to their conclusion via mtv. The majority of the world`s population is left, whether it be democractic, socialist, communist or communalist. Capitalism is a minority when it comes to world governments. Certainly you aren`t saying all of these political conceptions are a result of the media. After all, the the media is only as liberal as the conservative CEOs who own them, and last I checked MTV only had significant popularity here.

Sorry, don`t watch MTV. I watch Jon Stewart, but I watch because he`s FUNNY. Not because I need him to tell me what to think. I come to my own conclusions from paying attention to world events, I don`t need ANYONE to tell me what to think. You apparently can`t accept that two intelligent, educated people can disagree on issues. Maybe YOU need to sit back and think for a bit. People have different opinions on things, this is not neccessarily because they are stupid or listen to everything that someone else tells them, but because people are DIFFERENT, and therefore have DIFFERENT opinions.

I respect peoples opinions, thats my point, Im tired of hearing anti-Bush crap everywhere I turn. And the majority of it is the same recycled trash talking from 3 years ago, Bush is my president and I respect him for that. Let`s be a country again instead of fighting every move our government makes just for fighting. We are in a war. Let`s do what we can to get our men and women back safe without giving a whole country away to head lobbers. OK?

No, you clearly do not respect other people`s opinions. If you did, you would not say "all the Anti-bush mumbo jumbo from MTV clones who have no idea whats going on unless Carson Daily or John Stewart tells them need to sit back, think for a bit, and try to come up with a valid point."

That implies that anyone who doesn`t agree with you is a moron who just listens to what other people tell them to believe.

A great friend of mine was killed in Iraq. I think if he were to know that his name were displayed on a pair of boots in an effort to decry Bush`s inauguration and the war in Iraq, he would completely freak out. I also was in the military, but I became diabetic and was discharged. If I could, I would be helping as well. I believe in freedom. I do not believe in using someone else`s misfortune for political gain. These protestors are using caskets to make their point. That is absolutely ridiculous. The majority of the soldiers those caskets are representing truly believed in their cause. I am in no way saying that any honorable life is dispensable, but the cost of freedom has never been cheap.

By the way, why are we even discussing how much the inauguration parties cost anyway!? It is from private funds. It makes absolutely no difference how much f*cking money was spent. Just because President Bush was the subject of the party doesn`t change the fact that what someone does with their own money is their own business.

ANYONE that has made a comment about the humvees, social security, whatever, SHUT THE F*CK UP!!

The next time you are going to buy a beer, a bag of potato chips, or even a magazine; the next time you are going to purchase anything that is not a necessity, think about all the people that would just like you to know that your money would be better spent on armor plating for non-combat humvees. The next time you enjoy an ice cream, rememer that there is a soldier on guard duty unsure of the safety of the vehicle driving up to his post. Whether your lavish purchase is $40 or $40 million, it is your f*cking money. Spend it however you want!

It`s about time those fat-cat Republicans spent some of their money! It does the economy no good having $40 million in the bank. Maybe now a florist will have some extra money to buy something nice. Perhaps a limo driver can ship a surprise care package to his son in Iraq.

Isn`t it the same media complaining about the lavish spending, that was before complaining that Bush goes to bed too early and has dulled the Washington night-life. There are no special parties for them to attend where he is the featured guest. Perhaps they are pissed about that..

Hahahahahaha....once again a democrate shows their true side. I love how so many democrates claim to want peace, when anger obviously controls their lives. Do you really think the billions of dollars that goes into the military every year is pocket by Bush? I think you do. Stop trying to cause hate, and try to live life to the fullest. Peace is earned, not given.

If you read the opening line, nowhere does it claim to be a tribute, It is a protest the whole way. It says its a protest. Interesting how you can not see the facts when they are right in front of your eyes. It`s as if your mind is already made up and you just want to hear yourself complain.

First off...Chumbawumba lyrics haven`t changed, they`ve always been politically motivated...cept for that popular drinking song. Just look at their song titles http://www.letssingit.com/

As for the protest, the squeeky wheel gets the grease man. Just cuz he`s the prez, doesn`t mean we have to respect him... plenty of ppl lost respect for Clinton... many of the same ppl sayin we have to respect Bush. Bu__Sh__ . It`s what America`s about, saying your opinion, no matter how small your voice, no matter how mis-informed, no matter how bias, or wrong. Spin it how you want. Listen to who you want, ignore anyone who disagrees. Beautiful systm aint it?

Freedom isn`t cheap... hence our country is in so much debt. Yet most ppl are more willing to spend their neighbor`s son on a war, then have their hard earned cash go towards taxes to pay for some more armor to keep him alive. (Thou I think he shouldn`t be there to begin with...

estimpert- How can you complain about protesters when its in the first amendment that we have the right to protest? There is a point to protesting. It`s about getting your opinion out there so that people can hear more than one viewpoint. It`s also about letting the administration know that the whole country is not behind them and if they want a united country then they have to change something in their policy.

Jiriki- It`s stupid comments like yours that make so many of the consevatives think that all liberals are just hateful idiots.

I agree with pankate. If republicans think liberals are hateful, then they should look at themselves. What do they think all their little "moral" values are? Take a closer look and it becomes clear that those values are really just racism, sexism, and social prejudice in disguise.

No. When I became diabetic, I was in the greatest physical shape of my life. 5`9", 168 lbs. A month previous to the discovery, I scored my highest ever on a P.T. test.. two miles in 13 minutes!

I have type 1 diabetes, which is juvenile-onset. No known factors led to it. It shows up in people between birth and approximately 25 years of age.

I loathe people that just argue to argue.
FACT: Most of the funds came from private spenders.
FACT: We have to live with Bush for four years, even though I do not like it, I will still give him the same respect that I would want myself.
FACT: The United States is playing, "World Police".
FACT: We need to first start at home, where people are starving, freezing, uneducated, homeless and many other awful things.
FACT: Not everybody is Christian so I believe that some of the things that the president said in his speech offended a lot of people. And to the people that say, "well if you don`t like it leave", we/they shouldn`t have to. It`s a free country and we should be able to practice (for instance marrying whomever we want) whatever we believe in as long as it doesn`t hurt others.

That is all I really have to say. I`m not posting to bash Bush or defend him at, "all costs", I`m here to hopefully help both sides realize that arguing ove
