The one with the 3 and 5 quart pails is probably the easiest math problem there.

If i were designing an alarm clock for a deaf person I would have a way for it to hook up to the bed and make it vibrate.

Yeah, pele, I know that you can get an answer with a variable without knowing the distance.

Malletman:If the distance is X miles between New York and Los Angeles, then it takes X/(15+20) hours for the trains to collide, and the bird will have travelled 25X/(15+20)= X/7 miles in that time.

Switch question:
1st you turn on one switch...wait for a while
then you turn on another one and open the door. Go into room and feel which lightbulb is warmer.
That`s the 1st switch you turned on. tThe other lighted one is the 2nd swtich u turned on

There is a room with a door (closed) and three light bulbs. Outside the room there are three switches, connected to the bulbs. You may manipulate the switches as you wish, but once you open the door you can`t change them. Identify each switch with its bulb.

wtf?

btw, the last section is completely stupid.

I REALLY doubt you`d have to answer how m&ms are made if you were applying for a job there. If you do (and the other sh*t questions in that last section), Microsoft is really as much of a joke company as we all think it is.

Without paper I can answer a few of them. If I had some time I could probably do most of them.

It`s not as much the knowledge itself as it is for the reasoning capabilities, Tom.

Actually someone? these are real questions that they use at Microsoft. My cousin interviewed there and got very similar questions to the ones shown. I believe the point of these questions is not to see if you can get them right, but to see if you can think through things logically and creatively.

yes, someone?- these are...well...examples...they aren`t supposed to be questions that will determine how much you know...they`re more of questions to determine how creative you are. i liked a lot of these.

" One train leaves Los Angeles at 15mph heading for New York. Another train leaves from New York at 20mph heading for Los Angeles on the same track. If a bird, flying at 25mph, leaves from Los Angeles at the same time as the train and flies back and forth between the two trains until they collide, how far will the bird have traveled?"

How can you do that one without knowing the distance? I know it`s somewhere around 5000 miles between the two cities, but without knowing the distance, you don`t know how long it would be until the trains reached each other.

Manhole covers are round because it`s the only shape that will not fall through itself at any angle. So the lid will not fall down the hole no matter on what angle it hits it. I used to ask people that in interviews too, just for fun. As well as the age old, if you were a tree question.

Why is a manhole cover round?

I got asked this question when I applied for a job at Game Stop last year. I was so confused, because at first, I didn`t know what a manhole was. I made some dumb reason as to why manhole covers are round. I still got the job, but later when I asked the manager why he asked me that, he said it expressed a kind of higher thinking and creativity, so he wasn`t really looking for an exact answer. Those were really thought provoking questions, though
