The Victoria`s secret catalogue has less nudity than that.

First, this isn`t a catalog, it was a quarterly magazing produced to express the "lifestyle" of Abercrombie & Fitch.

Second, it`s not marketed to "kids," it`s marketed to college students. A&F Co. made Hollister to appeal to the teenage group.

^haha *shakes head*

Remember people, this is the same company that tried marketing thong underwear to the 4-7 year olds too.. You can still find some of them on eBay, they (of course) stopped making them though.

The cover actually says "group sex"

(too lazy to look through)
but what`s the point in a clothes catalogue if the models are half-naked?

Female 63
haha. probably the most useful thing A&F ever put out. It doesn`t cost $80, you can easily claim it`s just a catalogue when your mom finds it, and you can peruse online without getting a headache from the irritating music they blast through the p.a. in the store to brainwash customers. excellent.

for me it`s not that i don`t like the look of their clothes necessarily. it`s that i don`t think they`re anywhere near cute enough to cost as much as they do.

When I met you I said my name was Rich, you look like a girl from Abercrombie & Fitch!

Am I totally uncool because I love Abercrombie? There, The Limited and the Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic trio are pretty much all I shop at ... where else is there that has super cute stuff? :-?

One of many, many, many reasons to not shop at Abercrombie.

that was a bit of a dumb move.

i guess somehow it makes them more edgy or "hard core" (no pun, please) but it just seems like they tried too hard

As much as I despise Abercronie and Felch, I have to give a nod to their marketing genius. They are giving their target audience (the American middle-class youth) exactly what it wants: vapid, pointless sexuality; vapid pointless controversey; and something for the moral majority to scream about so all the little clones can run out and buy this crap in the mistaken belief that they are somehow bucking the system.

It`s the best way to sell any product, regardless of what it is or how stupid and useless it is. Marylin Manson did it, just about every dips#it "punk" band on MTV does it, television does it. I`m suprised it took Felch this long to jump on the bandwagon.

I finally looked at the catalog, and all I can say is HOLY CRAP! Someone brought a camera that day? Yes, that`s me and my friends playing in the ol` swimming hole. I had no idea someone was going to take pictures. How embarrassing!

i have to agree that its silly... some of them don`t have a stitch of clothing on. associating a bunch of naked people with abercrombie and fitch... yes it does work, and they are smart for doing that. this is, however, a testament to the inherent sheep culture of the masses. its annoying that the majority of people will go "hey naked is sexy. i like sexy. this is in an AF catalog. therefore, i like AF." sheep.

I actually, think that, it is art. artistic nudity is a far cry different from "erotic nudity". I think that the photograper did a wonderful job of capturing the moment. Even if ther reason for the pic is not clear, you have to admit, they are very well thought photos, with good quality, and setting.

"I agree with everything you said, rusted, but I`ll never get it. Not once have I looked at A&F`s pictures and thought "You know what? I think I`m going to go waste 50 bucks on a crappy pair of swim shorts today.""

People want to be sexy. People want to be intimate with someone else. People want to be young. People want sex. Associating that want for the above with an item is good. Whether people directly associate their need for sex or they only indirectly associate it, is not the problem of the company. Their only problem is that people BUY it..

But I wouldn`t wear A&F clothes 10 becuase they are expensive and 2) because I don`t want to be associated with rich bitches, thats what it represents in my town.

Nothing is wrong with their clothes. Infact, I think they are very smart for advertising nudity. Maybe if they lower their prices a bit.

Ihave to admit I like a lot of thier clothes too. I see something someone is wearing that I like, and then am very surprised its A&F.

I must confess I like their clothes, however I have never owned any as they are a bit too expensive. I can get similar at Old Navy for much less money.

Well at our malls they have an A&F and a A&F Kids. So they probably only show this stuff in the mature A&F.

Male 10,115
I did give a warning, geez.

Also, an interesting thing to consider is topless women appear in Vogue and Cosmo magazines all the time. I think that`s what A&F was thinking, but they kind of take it to the next level. And the main customers of A&F are kids.

For a soft-core porn mag, its pretty nice

Pretty or not. It`s still sexy. It`s still sensual. It`s still implying sexual behavior. Sex sells. You`ve heard that a million times. Why? Because it`s true.

Joe- "It isn`t given away for free in Abercrombie & Fitch stores, nor is sent out to customers as a free mailing. The A&F Quarterly is available for purchase at A&F outlets (we paid $7 for our copy) or via subscription. In-store buyers are asked to produce ID to demonstrate they are are 18 or older, and the subscription card instructs readers to "Fill out this card and head to the nearest A&F store with a valid photo ID" in order to subscribe."

That`s the theory. Just because it doesn`t work with you doesn`t mean it won`t work with others.

The pictures are very well done, I`ll give them that. I`ve never once bought anything from A&F because I think it`s horridly overpriced and I don`t even like the clothing.

They are targetting my age group, yes. I`m drawn to the pictures, yes. Therefore, in THEORY I`ll buy the product. And I`m sure that plenty of people will.

I was with you up to the end. I won`t associate sexy with A & F - their clothes suck.

Female 405
It`s advertising the image of sex and sensuality and attatching those ideas to the A&F brand name. Because people are curious and like the pictures, they associate the feeling of being sexy and naked with A&F. In theory, this association will influence their purchase of the product.

Basic advertising, really.
